A formal introduction: Lulu

Lulu is the smallest of the three and I constantly worry about whether she is thriving. I think it is actually because she will be a smaller chicken than the others as she is perfectly lively.
She is the most skittish and runs away from my hand (unlike 3C who pecks it).

Lulu is a Legbar with lavender genes (not the same as blue jeans). Genetically she has two copies of the 'lav' gene just like Hattie, but she looks different from baby Hattie because the 'lav' gene basically lightens the chick's usual colors. Orpington chicks are solid color so baby Hattie was lavender all over. Legbars are chipmunk chicks and so what you see is basically a washed out chipmunk. As an adult I believe she will be Hattie-colored but with different shades like the Roadrunner markings.

To fend off an attack by our lovely host, Bob, I am aware that Legbars are not a recognized breed by the APA (though they are recognized as a breed in Britain) but they do breed true and if Lulu were to meet a similar colored Legbar rooster she would have chicks the same as her (unlike with crosses such as Bella).

Points to everyone who guessed the lavender part.

Lulu is a name with Arabic origins meaning pearl, and she is certainly precious to me.

You have chicks?!!! So sorry I missed this. How exciting. Legbars are a recognised breed here too so eventually America will catch up.

She's my little annoying adorable funny little girl. The times that chick has made me laugh I just cannot count.

Hmmmm tricky situation with a trickster co-worker....

Have you tried bribing him with eggs ? I am not one for puzzles, so if a worker tries to puzzle me or play mind games I am now bribing them with eggs. Be nice you get eggs, be bad I loose your timesheet

You could always bleach the shells for her too if that would make her feel better.

Bleach is a carcinogenic, not such a good idea

He is doing this to my new hires as he trains them. It is de-motivating for them. I had one ask if he was fired he did so poorly. It's just not helpful.

Funny enough a friend was talking on this very subject today plus people that have put their backs into their work for many years never losing time don't ever seem too get a promotion anymore. What's happening to the work force? This appears too have been going on for well over a decade here in UK.
Take me back 30 years you were so much appreciated by the bosses when you treated your colleagues with respect and worked to the best of your ability.

You can get ones that are higher watts and therefore warmer, but you cannot use them with plastic. I have one of those 5gallon plastic buckets with horizontal nipples and you can just stand the bucket on this.
I usually plug it into a thermo-cube that turns it on at 35 degrees so it isn't on all the time but only when needed.

And in breaking news, I have pulled the heated base out of storage and admitted that carrying out water every 2 hours is really about as much fun as it sounds!
