Passed? Like “didn’t make it “? If so, I’m sorry about that. :(
Yes, I think in all honesty she might have accidently stepped on it. I had that issue with her last year with her first hatch. I do believe she is starting to loose what feeling she has left in what remains of her bad foot. Her first hatch last year she had 5 and in the first 2 days she stepped on 3. I swore she would never hatch again and she disappeared and came back with 10 and did not have a problem. To truly keep her from hatching chicks I would have to lock this hen up 24/7 during the spring and summer. If you find her eggs, and break her up when she is thinking about setting she'll just find a different spot. And nothing is off limits to her including the hillside so when she chooses a safe location that I can get to I just leave her alone.

Ok, she still just has the 1, and nothing yet from the other 2 eggs. And I messed up, she did not get 4 daisy eggs, she got one of Blueberry's darker eggs. In fact, now that I pulled the other 2 out into the light to listen to them to see if I heard chicks peeping, they could all be Blueberries.
It is a cute little thing though.

I know your chicken palace is like fort knox, but that visitor worries me. I would be inclined to treat him the same as I did the coyote.
There is really no point. There are five foxes that I can identify as individuals - so probably there are more.
A few years ago a vixen had 7 kits right next to the house and my understanding is that a lot of those kits hang around the same territory for many years.
So dispatching one will just mean one of its buddies will take over grocery store duties.
The foxes were the main reason I built the Chicken Palace the way I did, I knew I had to have somewhere that was a decent size that I was confident was fox-proof. Also raccoon proof - I have a load of those too!

Ok, before I go any further into the conversation with grandma last night I have to state that what she wants cannot happen this year and she is aware.

Alright, so the other evening she asked for a magazine or catalogue. I had nothing to offer her besides mom's horse magazine so I handed her my cackle and McMurry catalogues. I told her they were my new Christmas wish books. As I was fixing dinner last night she informed me she had went through both books and she found something she wanted and that I did not have. Bob will love this, grandma wants a Polish. Apparently it is the only breed in the books that she liked, she loves their head dresses as she called them. She said she does not care on color but next year I'm supposed to get a polish chick. Honestly if I had room I'd run and get one now, but, I'm pushing numbers I'm comfortable with at the moment. If more were added, I would have to have to place some others. Her solution is she knows momma hen is old, when her time comes she is seeing as her opportunity to add the polish chick. I agreed to that, and now I hope the bat lives a few more years.
This is a great outcome. It gives her something to look forward to that you don't need to act on any time soon!
