Has DH figured out your bait and switch yet?
🤫 Not yet!

In his defense, i did get 2 different types of ducks, and initially the geese were about as much bigger than the larger duck breed are as the larger was to the smaller duck breed, so he thinks I just got 3 different breeds of ducks. The way everyone is growing (and the behavior difference, if he stopped to observe) would give it away.

Got to keep him snuggling to be sure they bond.....

I saw it too (right across my BYC online experience) yes on Friday 13 ! :old :barnie
It’s lucky! It took the sound of the cam opening to get Nightshade to cross my path today. And then he wouldn’t stop back and forth and back and forth!

We really need to hire an official Summary writer…. Lol. If we can do it while Bob is off giving away his daughter in a beautiful, exotic location… why don’t we have an official permanent scribe/note taker? Oh yeah, because “life”. I can’t help you out too much with catch-up, as you left sometime after I did, and I’ve only been back for four or five months myself.

My last year or so was basically House Build Drama goes sideways… again, and did you meet my Goats? (Yes Plural, I got Arduinna a Boy Friend in December). Mom was convinced to move off the farm and into the 55+ residence on the island (it’s not going great). DH ended up in Hospital for Three Weeks during our Massive Floods late Novembe-December, and I was stranded alone without access to groceries, feed, or fuel while he was gone (partially due to his absence, the Flooding that took out lots of roads and highways, and then all our vehicles broke). I had to put down both my elderly cats and am Feline Free for the first time in pretty much my entire life. Big flock changes here are: I had a mink attack taking out 31 of my flock (about 1/3-1/2 of the free rangers) in the main chicken trailer in one morning, of couse while DH was in Hospital (caught the little bugger red pawed and he suffered some fast acting lead poisoning). Lost Roostie in the summer heat dome (2021) to a probable heart attack (after his foot had finally healed up nicely) and then lost Cass to a Raccoon. Had a crazy mama hatch out 11 late summer/fall babies in my truss pile. I’m no longer working with the cattle here, they shipped Gus, and several cows have died. Basically 2021 sucked.

2022 has been getting better. I scrapped the second story and am now working on just getting a roof on the house. Huge thanks to everyone keeping me going on that, too. One more big push and I’ll have a dried in house! DH’s medical situation is improving (heart blood clot is gone, and they are looking into more potential surgeries, but he’s still on some stupid expensive meds, and gets dizzy spells which complicates my roofing work). Free camper renovation project is coming along nicely, although we had a “loading error” and dropped it, so we need to find new jacks. I also just got my meat birds in… but due to crazy cold weather they are in our RV living room (probably a good thing mom doesn’t come up for dinner anymore!) I have three broodies and one mama with two chicks. I think that mostly covers what I’ve been up to.View attachment 3105517
:thWow Kris! That is a lot of things gone wrong! You a one tough lady! The stranded alone really got me😱I hope this year is a wonderful one for you and your husband ❤️ Thank you for the update!💕

Legertha and Sylvie did not make it. Legertha had a hole in her skull that did not close. One day her brain herniated and I found her lying dead in the coop.

Sylvie was attacked and killed by a Cooper's Hawk. I had numerous aborted hawk attacks this winter but was present enough to prevent any other actual injury.

Between October and April I lost 4 of my ladies. In addition to Sylvie and Legertha, Sansa and Lilly have passed away.

With Sansa I do not know what it was and the vet did not either. Something was very wrong with her. Her molt was a complete disaster as her feathers were essentially sticks with a little fuzz. I can only guess that something was very amiss and despite treatment by the vet I found her passed away in the run.

Lilly was very ill earlier this spring. I took her to the vet and we treated her with antibiotics and she perked and was herself again. While I was in Italy for my daughter's wedding a few weeks ago, Lilly passed away. She was dead under the coop.

In good news, the new lady is Betty. She is a frizzled Polish. She joined us in the winter.
