I haven't Bob. In the first year I was here two incubator hatches were 'introduced' to the Marans. The method and resulting disasters and the tales of what had gone before made me determined to put a stop to it. It was nothing like the care you lot put into your introductions.I doubt Lilly is giving way any time soon. Maybe Hattie is just assuring her place at the top when Lilly passes on?
The role of the number 2 hen is fascinating to me. Starting with them typically adopting the role of flock Sentinel. They seem to take on more of the rooster's role in an all hen flock.
@Shadrach (or anyone) is this what your roosters do when new hens are introduced? Have you ever introduced new hens into a tribe outside of hatching?
Basically newcomers were hatched in an incubator, kept in a cage until feathered and put in the coop one night and left to fend for themselves. I am told some ran away, others wandered about on their own until a predator got them. One of those that survived was Ruffles. She was the only survivor of four.

When I've had rescues here, I didn't try to integrate and they showed no interest in doing so of their own accord.
