Putting that Bad Leg to Work

Yesterday Lilly did not lay down at the end of the day to rest her leg for the first time since she hurt her leg. Like Gus the PA Lottery groundhog, she kept on scratching! She is favoring her right leg a little bit in the video but it is definately improving. She even started re-exerting her control over the backyard with some short sprints at the ducks and song birds yesterday.

No it isn't okay. Neither is constant rounds of antibiotics.
Aspirin, 4 days at most. Antibiotics, as prescribed by a vet. Nobody on this site should be advising on their use.

Well, I don't have a vet, and I have a dying chicken. This is what has kept her alive. What would you do? BTW, she has not had 4 days of aspirin.

Typically, I would agree. As you all know I am opposed to the indiscriminate use of antibiotics. However I and others have no access to a vet. I will not let my hen pass because I can't get to a vet to prescribe an antibiotic.

Thanks for saying that. Many of us come here for advice, and many chickens have been saved because of it. Doing nothing is a death sentence for these fragile creatures. I have one vet who will test for worms only, and she doesn't have worms.

This will seem cold but I feel safe in saying that his advice would likely be to let her go. Perhaps he will weigh in himself.

Remember some of us look at our chickens as pets, some as livestock, others somewhere in between. There are many different philosophies here on our chickens. I try not to take it personally.

You do your chickens as you feel right. You are their caretaker. They are your responsibility, not ours.

We have the same. The Princesses have a roof over their run so they are having fun playing in what I have started calling 'the lagoon' which is a drain that opens in their run and which will be a big hit in the summer. I however am soaking wet from going out to check on them. Back to bed with the cats for me I think.

I'm in bed with my cats as well watching them on the yard cam. Covered run, area under coop, and coop are keeping mine dry as well today.

If the rain slacks they come out to drink mud puddle water.

If it's to do with chickens I'll watch it.
