When there is a "look but don't touch" and "safe from foxes" nesting box, I will consider hatching a clutch. But first I have to work out a humane way of farewelling any loud cockerels. If a cockerel is quiet, he can stay.
Sadly, they are never quiet.

I'm astounded at the sensitivity of the mic on broody cam and the loudness of the in-egg cheeping!

Don't be sad. Good vocal chords is good! They go with good lungs which is definitely good.

That's a very good point.

Sydney's hatch is such a great learning opportunity for me. I'm surprised there's enough space in an egg for a chick to even expand its lungs much less make a cheep. They must be super tiny when they hatch out.

I think they may come out egg sized. I find it fascinating how porous the egg is. That's some serious air exchange.
