She was astounded. Ivy too.

For those of you in Australia, good morning. I think you are waking up to chicks.
When there is a "look but don't touch" and "safe from foxes" nesting box, I will consider hatching a clutch. But first I have to work out a humane way of farewelling any loud cockerels. If a cockerel is quiet, he can stay. There is broodiness in those 2!![]()
Sadly, they are never quiet. When there is a "look but don't touch" and "safe from foxes" nesting box, I will consider hatching a clutch. But first I have to work out a humane way of farewelling any loud cockerels. If a cockerel is quiet, he can stay.
Well, the neighbour had a quiet rooster. Olaf was his name and three of the neighbour's hens are Olaf's grand-daughters.Sadly, they are never quiet.
I'm astounded at the sensitivity of the mic on broody cam and the loudness of the in-egg cheeping! No Chicks Yet
@CraCrazyChookChookLahappened to be in the area so we did a check. Still solid eggs. Just good vocal cords apparently. I'm just a bit sad.
It can't be long now, can it?
Don't be sad. Good vocal chords is good! They go with good lungs which is definitely good.No Chicks Yet

That's a very good point.Don't be sad. Good vocal chords is good! They go with good lungs which is definitely good.
I think they may come out egg sized. I find it fascinating how porous the egg is. That's some serious air exchange. That's a very good point.
Sydney's hatch is such a great learning opportunity for me. I'm surprised there's enough space in an egg for a chick to even expand its lungs much less make a cheep. They must be super tiny when they hatch out.
