Good morning Bob and everyone!

Oh, at 1:06 Sydney does the beak wiping thing that was the first thing I noticed our chicks doing. I assume it's normal but haven't been concerned enough to look it up. This morning's thing to look up was seeing a bit of pink push out poop. It went back in fairly quickly so I don't think I have to worry about prolapsed vent.

I am glad you were able to put up a bit of fence. We have a pool too but with the chicks in the brooder we don't have to worry about it quite yet. It does have a fence around it. Hopefully the chickens will be as uninterested in it as the guineas have been.

All right, off to catch up on the rest of the thread. *waves*
Figured I'd toss a wave back at you. :frow

The beak wiping is perfectly normal. They literally are cleaning off their beak. They have no napkins or sleeves so they use the ground or whatever is handy. Nothing to worry about.

Even Aurora

One of my most reliable nest box layers was checking out the pool shed nest this morning. She is in the coop now but i am wondering. Would it make sense to build them a safe nesting location outside of the coop at this point?

@BY Bob si glad you are back. I was worrying about you all day. View attachment 2211065

I have a cat - Nightshade - who vigorously grooms the top of my head. It can be quite painful.
All New Jersey cats are like that. :lau (maybe it's the chemical plant waste)? :hugsI'm kidding. but, "find little snacks" :th

I think picking them up for a cuddle is good. I try to periodically handle all of them, even those who don’t like it. It seems it’s always the one who hates being handled that gets sick. If they are more accustomed to your touch, it should be less stressful if there is an actual need to handle them.
That is exactly my thinking. And I like their little fluffy bellies!

so far so good, today he was eating solid pellets... he still seems a bit down at times, but ttheblood and crustiness is all gone, and I think it’s regrowing ok. Slowly, but ok. I just couldn’t believe that he managed to break off a spur so soon after as well! And no clue how he did it. He actually has two spurs on each leg, Kind of like those weird Jacob sheep. I should try to get you guys a picture of the undamaged leg...
As long as you've managed to stop the bleeding he'll be fine.
