I'm ashamed to say that I forget that all the time.

Since we are on opposite sides of the planet and the sun hits us first (relative to the international date line) we are 1/2 a day (ish) ahead of you. We can tell you the future! Tuesday morning is bright and sunny!

This was Fat Birds eye condition this morning before treatment. Yesterday it was completely covered in bubbly liquid and more swollen.
The eye got another rinse out. I use cotton wool soak in PH neutral eye wash and sort of dab and squeeze to flood the eye. Now it's less swollon I can see a small cut on the lower lid and another in the corner of the same eyelid. I administered a single drop of Oftalmowell eye treatment and off she went to join her tribe.
Just done her again this evening but can't get a decent picture. The eye is much better; more eyeball showing and the bubbles are gone. The small cut in the corner has bled a bit which is good because that will help clean it.

Ouch! No wonder you are worried about her Shad.

I hope she keeps improving.

Nice photo Shad, I'd give a wolf whistle if I knew how to whistle. I think you should use that photo as your avatar. We already know what chickens look like. BTW I am older than you, so a senior, senior. You are just a beginning senior - big difference between us.

It's a very rough figure. I don't really know how many are in Shad's tribes, your flock (is it 12?), micstrachans flock, whodats flock, feathers or CCCLs flock. Ali and I have 4. RC has 5. Bob has 8. The other Bob, I guessed 10-15 (likely very low estimate). The total is probably higher than my first rough count.

With my 5 girls that's an extra 10! Plus Butterscotch's girls (Shame on you MJ, how could you forget the other Ozzie chooks! )

I'm pretty sure I counted your's first time around but not in my reply to Ribh, which was maybe a day later? My first count was careful but my re-telling was careless it was chilly and I wanted to finish my chicken chores and go inside.

Chick Fix

I wanted to make a food call video for @RoyalChick so mealy worms did the job.

Royalchick don't give up on trying new treats for you chicks. They may not try it the first time offered but eventually they will get curious and try. The biggest hit around here is raisins/cranberries or Goldfish graham crackers. I discovered out all my chickens love raisins by accident. One of my horses Louis *the old man* hated everything when we got him. If it wasn't grain or hay he'd act like you were trying to poison him if you offered something to him. Until i was snacking on a box of raisins in between cleaning stalls. His ears perked up and he stretched his neck out begging to try. Thinking he'd just sniff and turn his nose up i offered him a handful. He ate the rest of the box. The chickens discovered them not long after when he dropped a few, now they all know what the box looks like. Momma hen who likes to keep a bit of distance between us will be trying to trip me up underfoot wanting raisins before anyone else. Coffee is another thing that is not safe outside, i have to be careful where i set a cup down if i have one. Either one of the horses will be trying to get to it or my Marans daisy is trying to drink it.

I love stories like that.

Horse tries raisins. Likes them. Makes mess eating them. Chickens see dropped raisins. Tries raisins since they are there. Chickens love raisins.

Simple.

Chick Fix

I wanted to make a food call video for @RoyalChick so mealy worms did the job.

Who speaks chicken?
What is going on here? It is not a squeaky door hinge on the Chicken Palace it is Diana. A moment before she saw something out of the window and craned her neck towards it and sort of 'shouted'. I was right there and couldn't see a thing. Then she started this noise and was very alert for quite a while. The other two Princesses didn't seem that bothered by it all. And 10 minutes later everyone was fixing their feathers for the night. Would love to know what this sound means.

I would not be surprised if they were wary right now because last night the outside coop cam picked up these lovelies.

And tonight another one (or is this a possum?)

But all these are after dark and it was still light and I was right there looking out of the same window as the Princesses. Very puzzling.
