My wife gave me the entire boxed set of DVDs for Christmas one year.

Just about to head back out, it's dark here now, to try and find Donk who has a nest behind the donkey shed. I think it's quite high up on the bank so a ladder is required.
Tackle has hopefully just sprained a leg and is in with me for the night.
Cillin has knocked the scab off the back of his leg. It needs a bandage of some sort again, just to give it some protection. I'm going to have to come up with some sort of protection for it that allows it to breathe.
Mel is broody and in the yellow maternity unit. I'll have to sort her out in the morning.
It's too hot for all this.

Hot here too Shad. I did some demolition / remodeling work in my other house, and WOW was it hot, removing an old shower stall, and pan. (I'm done for the day)

Any idea why so few? Who is her rooster? Maybe he needs a checkup.

She's still a pullet and if the senior hens catch the boys trying it on they interrupt. That's one reason.
She half sat for a couple of days and still laid eggs. That might account for say three.
Being a pullet, she doesn't have a rooster as such yet.
From what I've seen she won't, or doesn't crouch properly yet and that puts the aim off.
That's all I can think of atm.
The boys are fine.

Doesn't that also cause problems with the hatch rate? Sydney was never off the nest that long.

It does. She's not very good at it yet.

You're like a medic out there. Be careful. I would hate for you to be wounded, sprain a leg, pop a scab, etc. Safety first.

Got her. I'll take some pics of the nest in the morning. I just wanted her safe in her coop tonight. I've left the eggs there.
One of the good things about Donk is you get plenty of warning she's about to sit. She's like her grandma Cheepy in this respect; and in a few others come to think on it. Donk will start telling everyone she's got a pile of eggs three days before she actually sits on them. She does the full broody puff up on the last day and the two days before she goes into cluck mode from time to time. She's also very regular in her sitting habits so if you miss all the rest she's easy to track to her nest. Her daughter Knock unfortunately doesn't give much warning and she'll be next so I'll need to keep a good eye on her in the coming days.
