Has anyone heard from @micstrachan?
Hi Kathy,
Thanks for checking. So far, so good. This (rental) property is very over grown, so now that I’ve watered the veggies, I need to get on the roof and tackle some branches.

We are currently about 7.5 miles from the closest edge of the fire. Really hoping the stars align and some of the predicted weather changes (dry lightning storms and dramatic wind shift) don’t happen. I have dog crates set up in the back of my vehicle in case we have to evacuate. Not sure where I’d take the birds, but I should be able to get them out of here relatively quickly. Do you remember Moody Curve on 17? That’s where I live... on the east side of 17 inside the hairpin.

Edited to tag Kathy.
@casportpony

Edited again to add... Kathy, you aren’t near any fire, correct? I hope it stays that way!

Roosting Time

Of course in a new environment like they were, Ned and Lucky had no idea where to roost for the night. As it got dark, all the other chickens knew where to go leaving only Ned and Lucky out in the yard.

In Ned's life (Lucky as well), I have not handled them much. When they were very small and Sydney could not get both of them in the coop at the same time, I would pick them up and show them the ramp. I picked up and held Ned when he fell in the pool. Lastly I gathered them up for the ride to their new home.

So it surprised me greatly that when he was in distress and trying to find someplace to spend the night, Ned chose me. I'm being very literal. He chose me.

At first, he flew up onto the arm of my chair. I thought, "That's perfect. If Lucky will just jump up next to him then it will be easy to move them to the new coop".

Only problem, Ned decided he wasn't high enough. I saw him measuring and told CCCL, "He's going to fly to my head".

He roosted there a while and then CCCL gathered up Lucky and we moved them to a crate in the coop while Stanley watched on from his roost.

@BY Bob: So happy to see this. I've been worried about how you'd do letting the chickies go but everything seems to have gone swimmingly & you know they have a fantastic new home. :hugs

Pleased to read re-homing Ned and Lucky went well @BY Bob
It seems you had that experience that I have treasured with so many of the cockerels here when you get chosen as the safe place when all is strange in their world.
Many don't understand my passion for roosters but once you've been chosen and if you treat them well they will be lifelong company and always be glad to see you. Yes they fight and they crow and the upset the hens from time to time but if you want a cuddle, you can't do better than a rooster, imo.

Trump is looking handsome. I admit to finding naked necks in general weird looking, but then i'm not a fan of turkey's either. I dont think one would fare well here, mosquito's would have to eat the neck area alive. I love your brady bunch crew, they are going to be gorgeous when they grow up.
Thank you! And yes, I have to agree that they are not the prettiest but when they are babies... Oh ma ga! They are simply adorable 😍 ... but I have to say I am very happy with TRUMPS looks! I think he is looking pretty 😎cool!!
I can’t wait to see the itties grown up! And get some olive eggs!
