Tackle's first day out since her injury. Treacle was there minutes after. He's so good in this respect. Tackle crowed this morning as she has a couple of other times; not a halfhearted crow either.
She spent the day with the tribe. She's still limping a bit but she kept up with the others today (I checked lots) and everyone was nice to her. Cillin was very pleased to see her. I think he knows she's moulting.

Shad, I’m sorry I have not gotten to the part where she got injured. I did see a couple pictures of progress. Do you mind telling me what happened? It’ll take me forever to find it.

Of course. It's very easy. I don't know.
I found her under a bush when doing my rounds and not with the tribe. I went to encourage her to join them and she could hardly stand. I checked her over for breakages and other injuries but couldn't find any exterior signs. I assume she caught her leg in something or landed badly and strained something. She got a small dose of Metacam that night and I put her in the pet carrier in my house to give the leg some rest. She got another dose of Metacam the next morning and was confined to the pet carrier and short stints of exercise in the house. She got into the nest box the second night which she knows and feels safe in so that was easy. It's really hard when they stand at the door wanting to go and roost with the others when they come round for supper.
She was much better this morning and I was able to keep a better eye on her so I let her out.
I'll check what she's like in the morning.

Such a good Bucket Boy! Such lucky hens! :)

The good news is today saw the end of the oppressive summer heat. Warm is nice; hovering between 37C and 40C day after day isn't. The forecast is for a couple of days over 30C next week and then under 30C from then on.
It's lovely tonight. It's a balmy 24C outside. Clear skies with lots of stars and I'll get a decent nights sleep.

Roosting Time

Of course in a new environment like they were, Ned and Lucky had no idea where to roost for the night. As it got dark, all the other chickens knew where to go leaving only Ned and Lucky out in the yard.

In Ned's life (Lucky as well), I have not handled them much. When they were very small and Sydney could not get both of them in the coop at the same time, I would pick them up and show them the ramp. I picked up and held Ned when he fell in the pool. Lastly I gathered them up for the ride to their new home.

So it surprised me greatly that when he was in distress and trying to find someplace to spend the night, Ned chose me. I'm being very literal. He chose me.

At first, he flew up onto the arm of my chair. I thought, "That's perfect. If Lucky will just jump up next to him then it will be easy to move them to the new coop".

Only problem, Ned decided he wasn't high enough. I saw him measuring and told CCCL, "He's going to fly to my head".

He roosted there a while and then CCCL gathered up Lucky and we moved them to a crate in the coop while Stanley watched on from his roost.

My son is here with me reading about Ned and Lucky’s adventure. He noted how they’re all roosting, so that makes them all “roost-ers”. :D:lau

Co-workers
I am trying to dig a big hole (more on that when I have figured out what it is I am really trying to do).. ..
View attachment 2301506

The trouble is, my co-workers keep flinging the dirt back in the hole.. .. ..

And then two of them went off and dug a hole of their own in a different place.. .. ..View attachment 2301517

I feel we need a discussion about team goals.
I am feeling undermined by my co-workers! :lau :lau
What do you expect? You work them so hard, and pay them (Chicken feed)! Haha
