Do you know what it was she saw?Alarm!
While I was filming the girls snacking the other day, Hattie sounding warning and Aurora picked it up. This video is 3 minutes long. They stood stock still for almost the entire 3 minutes. Hattie had 1 foot only 1/2 way on the ground and she never finished her step. You will see Hattie and Aurora on my right with Sansa frozen behind the pool heater. Sydney was to my left.
The initial alarm sound (a short squeak repeated once), which is not loud, came from Hattie and then Aurora takes charge, makes the loud warning and maintains what I call the "rumble".
I've been suspecting for some time that Aurora has been picking up more Sentinel duty from Hattie. This may be an example of them working together while on duty.
I solved this one long ago. I wear toe socks with my thongs [flip~flops for Americans],It's really bad in the winter when you've got more than ten to count. I hate taking my shoes and socks off when it's cold.![]()
They weren't looking the same way. Was there an unusual sound they heard? Poor Hattie. She's a bit of a mess just now. Looking forward to seeing her in her lovely new feathers.Happy Friday
Sadly it has to be Hattie this Friday. Her butt feathers are always the last to come in. It has to be chilly. Zoom in at your own peril.

he looks kinda like the pic below but more red and super long spursI have a Pekin rooster whose nickname is fluffy butt
I have not. That is one food I have not tried. I have given them salsa and they left the peppers and onions but ate the tomatoes if that helps.Q: anyone ever feed chili peppers to your birds? My neighbor just gave me 10 pounds of fresh habanero peppers. (I can make hot sauce with) But that's still a lot of leftover peppers.![]()
Here are the leftover black oil sunflower seeds that I threw to them on the deck. Even though there were 6 hens, then did not finish them. It was only 2 hand fulls.Mine seem to be unlike a lot of other flocks. They strip nothing clear. They even leave snacks behind on the deck for later. Knock on wood but as long as I have had them, they have not overwhelmed my grass and browned my yard for whatever reason. I cannot explain it but they seem to be conservationists. Never attacking any area too hard.
I really cannot fathom this. Here are the leftover black oil sunflower seeds that I threw to them on the deck. Even though there were 6 hens, then did not finish them. It was only 2 hand fulls.

I don't think I've fully appreciated her iridescence until now. Or the variation in her colouring. What a lovely hen.Fat Bird.
