Bitsa chickens? Bits of this and that? Like a barnyard mix? I think that's what all my chicks are now.
It's all a bit silly really because they are all bitsas. It's just some have more recent bits than others.
I don't know how many generations back of same breed breeding it takes to get called a heritage breed.
It's always worth bearing in mind the Spanish royal family when considering the wisdom of in breeding.:D

Same as many royal families really.
And just to be clear, this has nothing to do with why I refer to my chickens as Princesses!

:gig I'm not familiar with the Spanish royal family, but that just gave me a picture of it.

So, what you are saying is, my chicks that look like lavender Orpingtons, but might not have strictly been created between my LO Rooster and one of the LO hens, can still be considered LO's because that's what they look like? (I just made myself dizzy.)

Anyway, from one thread to another, look who came round today.
They haven't been round as a tribe for, I don't know, maybe over a month.
They all piled in this evening and I was so pleased to see them i didn't get a picture until some had left with Treacle to go to roost.
Needless to say I spoilt them rotten. Fresh made mash with the commercial feed, tuna, walnuts, a small piece of cheese each. I had a long chat with Cillin as I gave his leg a check over. Did Fat Birds bum. Easy to check poor fudge for mites given they've got hardly any feathers to hide under. Hurry has worms I think so she's on the meds as from tomorrow. Looked like eggs in her poop under magnification.
They left late due to the storm outside. Just checked on Fudge; not much waterproofing on her atm, but she's dry and wedged next to Fat Bird again.
