Funny and smart little critters. Mable yells at me every day for her spinach. Gets as close to the back door inside her run, and squacks. Get the spinach out, no more sqaucking.
They train us well. 🤣

Extend the antibiotics for another 3-5 days post cutting to be safe. How did you wind up giving them to him? Don't worry if it you can't safely get it all. His body will clear small amounts. It's the big mass of whatever it is that's the problem.
@Kris5902 if you can get some Anbesol for toothaches it contains lidocaine and is great at numbing tissue. You could rub it around the area to numb it first. I don't know how deep it will go but it certainly will help some.
I thought you would say as much about the antibiotics! It does seem to be loosening up the mass in places. I tried mixing the powder into water, that didn’t go so well. If Andrew is here I can mix just two drops of water in and it forms a lump which the two of us can get into him. When Andrew is off at work I’ve found with 5-6 drops of water I can form a fairly thick paste I can load in the back end of a syringe (without a needle of course) and squirt into his mouth on my own fairly reliably.

Today’s antibiotic dose is late... I had to walk out to the beach to check for squatters to evict. They either have already left or aren’t out there yet, but were talking about camping out on our property at the store this morning. They are either trespassing on the farm land or illegally camping in the park. The only place you’re technically able to camp out there (without our permission) would be the intertidal zone on the actual beach.

I had read in many places that lidocaine is highly toxic to chickens, is that just when it is ingested then? I’m really wishing I had a Dr Gloria right now... or even a decently priced vet of any sort. The Vet I took him too was great, just incredibly out of my price range.

I just ready a study from 2014 where they utilized 7 to 8 mg/kg of lidocaine intravenously with no ill effects on the chicken. The study was designed to try and determine the validity of the "common knowlege" that lidocaine was fatal to chickens. The article calls for follow up studies for further confirmation. There is also anecdotal reports on BYC where people have successfully used it for bumblefoot surgery. Topical lidocaine should not get to anywhere near the blood levels used in the study.

Obviously it is up to you. If you think that he can handle the pain, you may not want to take the risk.

Oh my what a story!
You may well be right - I do think mine would do pretty much anything for shrimp tails.
My two salmon Faverolles will panic if they lose sight of the others and start bokking. You can hear them winding up like an air raid siren! :lau
Your girls sound as animated as my Spazzy girl does! :D

And it just hit me you were talking about the ball! 🤣. Ok, so now you know my coop is ok. lol...yeah, that ball idea would be best ..I think..under supervision for a bit.
Yes I meant the ball! :lau Trying to make it predator-proof! :D
