OK so I should stop worrying as it is 'only' going down to 7°F?I did. I can't be certain if it helped or not because I was unwilling to risk that beautiful comb. I only did it when the temp approached or went below 0°F.

OK - I could give them corn - they love corn on the cob. They really don't love 'mushy' food - but I can try for sure. For what it's worth, I never add supplemental exterior heat. I feed for internal heat.
When we had the coldest night of the year just before roosting time I went out with a warm mash of layer pellets, Timothy/ Alfalfa pellets, and corn. The fiber in the hay pellets and corn warms from the inside out. Just like feeding unlimited hay to horses in the winter.

It worked! Can we customize the name on the spoiler?
Oh goody. Someone who knows more than me. I was starting to think I was a bit of an idiot for mentioning it.I think so, too. Their double barring will show up with their first real feathers, I believe. Or does that not show until their full size feathers come in?
SHRA?

You know I do not monitor her usage at all. I guess I may have to start.BY Bob, I know you monitor Phyllis's online activities but are you sure Aurora hasn't been sneaking online. I think she's been somehow conversing with Bread about nest making, or destroying of nests i should say. Clover, Bunny and Lola have been painstakingly building the perfect little round nest in the dog house for the last week. Bread's destroyed it today. Completely dug it out and flattened it only to lay her egg on the bare bottom of the floor. She exited it quite proud of herself with a few bits of hay tossed on her back. I feel for the other girls when they go to lay later on.
