They are 2 weeks old today. I'm watching these chicks like a hawk. Right now i'm thinking it is a pullet. 2 reasons, delicate dainty legs, and while there is comb for this age, marans have a large comb and females can have a bit of comb at this age, there is no wattles yet. If i have them still at 3 1/2 to 4 weeks old I should know on all of them. This is Bumblebee at 2 weeks old, no doubt about him even then. Now, if Karen does decide to become a boy, he's Kevin. Rosie informed me that male Karen's are called Kevins.

I won’t tell my friend Kevin she said that... he’s the one who insisted it’s actually “Kyle” 😂

oh, and how often is it you’re hoping it’s a “Karen” :lau Too. Many. Years. In. Retail...

It may be Kyle for all I know and she just wants the name Kevin for a boy. I'm not going to argue with her, at almost 13 she's more in the know of what is going on on social media and the latest trends. I'm boring and don't care and spend my time out with the animals. But then.....I like my animals more then most people.

13... yep, she’s probably got it all figured out. I agree completely, most of my animals are much better than people, even Mr. Attitude himself, Chickie Hawk! Lol

Oh, good! Sounds like you are well experienced here. I agree Bumblebee’s comb is larger and pinker than Karen’s. Dainty legs sounds pullet. It will be fun to see how this pans out!

Now I'm just basing my experience on what I saw from the chicks I hatched out over the summer and what the breeder of my original Marans told me to look out for. Delicate legs lean towards girls, thicker legs boys and early wattle development for boys. Out of 3 different hatches last year that held true. I also noted last year when Bumblebee hatched I had a gut feeling about him being a boy, his comb at hatch had faint visible points while the girls was flatter. So far, I've saw this twice with the chicks that have hatched this year. The first 2 that hatched 2 days ago tree trunk legs and a more obvious comb while still wet. My gut is telling me those 2 are boys. Of course the dead give away come in at about 5 weeks. Any boys will begin to show the trademark copper on their wings and necks first.
