I’ve had good success with clotrimazole, which I buy as an over the counter vaginal cream. You administer it with a syringe right into the beak… Yes… You’re making her eat it. Shad might not like that method, but it has worked in my flock. Also, lemon juice with cayenne, cinnamon and I forget what else in it might help. Also, temporarily avoiding food that feeds yeast, which would include regular pellets, crumbles, scratch etc. That might be hard to do without separating her, which you might not want to do.Dr Olivia thinks sour crop, so that’s something. Anyone got some tried-and-tested tips? Apart from the ACV water?
Oh! And acidified copper sulfate in the drinking water, as the only water source. I’d have to look up how long. My flock hated it, but I believe it’s tried and true. You might need to give them probiotics afterward for a but to replenish the gut flora.I’ve had good success with clotrimazole, which I buy as an over the counter vaginal cream. Yes! And I found my old thread on a crop issue (on Ruby!)Remember I know nothing about chickens.
That said, I believe sour crop is a candida (yeast) infection just like thrush so your treatment makes total sense. I think probiotics are likely a good add because good bacteria can displace the yeast. I also think you have to try and make sure the crop empties because the yeast thrive on stagnant crop contents - I have no idea how to do that and have never had to treat this but I would think massage and lots of fluids would help.
