She is a beautiful girl. And still laying....she's got it all! :loveI absolutely love the super big, floppy comb. Don't know why, but I'm a sucker for those!

🎶She can bring home the bacon (well, the eggs, anyways) and fry it up in a pan, and never let you forget your a (Roo)man, she's a Womhen, Hen-Rietta!! 🎶

Okay, I'm probably showing my age, but that was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the pic & heard she was still laying!

That's sad you lost her. What were her symptoms?

It was really good of you that you gave her a home and at least she was happy being a leader for while there :)
Pain and she laid a small piece of chicken instead of egg. She had many trips to Dr Mark the bird vet and lots of antibiotics but it wouldn't clear up. I regret making the choice to euthanize her instead of getting her a hysterectomy, which Mark offered.

Next time I have a hen with a reproductive tract infection I'm going to agree to a hysterectomy.

I'm lucky to have such a vet to back me up. Very few people have a bird specialist they can rely on. Sometimes his advice is not common knowledge so people disagree with it, eg don't give a chicken a bath, but I'd rather do as he suggests. He knows birds better than I do.
