That way I will have a Black Copper Marans, which with my hens they are mostly black, Black silkies, add in a Black Brahma, and for good measure a Black Cochin and I'll be set.
Look at these, Big, Black and with feathered feet and legs, they would fit right in.

I'm the same ~ but it's tempament I'm drawn to. 🙄 I adore my mad hatters, & would have a coopful of Campines if I could. And frizzles! Frizzle me anything & I will be besotted with it.🤣

Éowyn had her checkup on Monday. 16lbs and 4 more years of growing to go. She is only 1lb behind Davis and has a much larger frame.

Wow! My largest tops out at 13lb. Like a kitten in comparison !

They do look very comfy in there. But I think it is too soon for visitors, unless of course she has come round with a welcome to the neighborhood gift. Pie maybe?

I've heard of allotments before but never understood the actual day to day reality of them. Could you explain more about the allotment project please? Is the allotment privately owned or is it more like a community garden? What sort of plantings are you allowed to do and do you have to run everything by a committee? We don't have them in Australia as far as I'm aware..

The theory and the practice often part company when realiity intrudes.
This is coucil property. It was earmarked for building on. The local residents objected and the council stated that if the residents could come up with a community scheme they would reconsider. Allotments won the day.
The original idea was that everyone would work together and grow food for personal consumption and sale. What happened was the initial burst of enthusiasm waned and those that stayed with the project marked out their own plot and grew more or less what they wanted.
Now about half the plots are tended. There are community trees in the orchard and various fruit bushes beging to run wild. The chickens and geese were the idea of the man who used to maintain the allotment public areas. Since he died the place has slid into decline.
Some council allotments you pay the council a small annual fee for. I don't think this place works like that. It's as close to common land as land gets these days.
