Yes, large end is better, as that is where the air sac is...for microwaving. For boiling, I always prick the small end, but I assume you could prick either for boiling with little difference.My dad used to say to prick the flat end because that's where the air sac is. Did he have that wrong? Maybe it doesn't matter which end is pricked?
I once taught a friend to prick her eggs before boiling them and when she came back from an overseas holiday, she brought me an egg pricker! I've still got it somewhere. It looks like this.
