Yes I like your setup a lot. But I have to confess I like the convenience of mine for collecting eggs.I like nest boxes that are scattered around the place.
Wow! That is worse than Aurora!I have a nesting box problem.
Sorry for the long video. This is Maggie repeatedly hauling Dotty out of the nesting box. This pattern repeated every 20-30 mins throughout the day.
- the box in question is not one Maggie has ever used (it is the one Dotty uses)
- Maggie never went in a nest box all day except to eject Dotty.
- Dotty didn’t lay an egg.
I am not sure what to do. I am considering adding a lidded kitty litter tray to The Chicken Palace as an alternative nest box area. Or should I just let them sort it out?
I can't believe yours are still laying. Mine dried up over a month ago.Oh and while I am sharing my chicken woes here is the ugly egg Diana produced the other day

Oh gosh that's scary.Too dark out now. I’m hoping she wanted to nest somewhere else, but I worry. Maybe I will see her in the morning![]()

They are works of art. Don't stop! You are very good at it.Hi foljs. My son is home for Thanksgivingvand I’m busy with food prep, etc, but wanted ti check in. Sunshine was feeling eggy this morning, as if she’s coming back into lay. However, there was no egg and tonight she does not feel well. I popped a calcium citrate plus D3 and will evaluate in the morning.
Here is my third (and probably final) fall flower arrangement. It’s such a frivolous expense, but I can’t help myself. They add warmth to the home and make me happy.

That’s super sweet. But poor Hattie. After Patsy died it was quite a while until Sansa joined the tribe. During that time Hattie and Lilly were tight. The switch did not occur when Sansa first arrived. Once Sansa started laying it seemed Lilly noticed her.
I was very surprised at first and Hattie was miffed. Lilly used to call for Hattie when she found good food so they could share it. She did this by making the tid bitting sound that a rooster makes or a mother hen makes to her chicks. Hattie was surprised when Lilly started making the tid bitting sound and blocked Hattie from the food waiting for Sansa and sharing it with her. Hattie has not really had a good friend since then.
As far as Lilly and Sansa once you think about it, it makes sense. They are similar sized hens with very similar personalities. From a personality standpoint they are very compatible. I believe that Lilly sees Sansa as a younger version of her in a lot of ways.
