I really like the flexibility of the cordless… sure it’s just a small blade, not as powerful as the corded ones… but I can walk across my yard and cut the plywood at my pallet o ply and carry the smaller piece to where I need it! and it beats firing up the generator! I can slice through that random little branch across the road… when I do driveway cleanup I just drive the truck, cut things into manageable chunks and toss them in while driving sown for say water, and back up… most of our hose has been built with those batteries! And I use them to light the trailer too! I hope they make another version of the ripple shop lights, they have been awesome

Battery power is very freeing. That's why I always try to use them first. I'm usually not happy when running a power cord for a tool.

I agree that it is. Reason and fear are both living in my brain right now. I wobble back and forth. I'm not certain how I push it solely to the reason side.

Tool tax too now??? Lol here’s Sammy before his recent little tussle, and my favourite giant land chicken from 2017/2018 “24” he loved his brushes, and was such a good boy. And proof I am great at accidental screenshots, but can’t for the life of me do one when I am trying!

Good advice. If I get into something big I have big plug in tools as well. I use the little battery stuff for little projects.

Coop Remediation

Someone noticed a while back that it looked like i was getting moisture in the main coop. That was absolutely true. It was under control until the last big rain storm we had. 3 inches of rain overwhelmed the coop roof and I had water dropping inside.

So I figured I would cover the roof with a tarp to buy me time for spring to arrive and find a better solution. So today, since the tribe was already out, I decided to tarp the roof. Unfortunately what I found was easy worse than I expected. I planned to tack the tarp to the existing roof. What I found was that the roof was so rotted the tacks would have never held the tarp down in even a mild wind. Whatever I do, the roof will need a new board even as a base for some other roofing material. If I squeezed it hard right now the edges would crumble in my hands.

So how to ensure the tap would stay in place?

From remodeling the dining room floor I had a very long piece of trim. Using the same methodology I do to hold the shower curtains on the run I ran the trim along the roof edge. Here is how it came out. The arrows indicate the primary wind direction as it hits the coop.

The piece of wood I used to put on the roof was recycled from its previous life as bracing wood for deep trenches. So there is no shame for it starting to rot but this happened fast.

Hopefully this fix will get me a couple of months until spring is fully here and the ground is hard enough for heavy construction.

Lilly Update

The vet called today and while she had the labs back she did not want to tell me anything until she had consulted with specialists about what they are telling us.

I find this a little terrifying. I'm not certain I will sleep tonight.

Meanwhile Lilly had a great day today.

She sunbathed TWICE today and was really enjoying it!

She was active the rest of the time. Scratching a lot and she roosted on the high roost again today.

Yay for Lilly having a great day! Please get a good night’s rest knowing she had a great day. She will sleep soundly with her friends in the coop and you should do the same. No amount of worrying is going to make a bit of difference. If nothing else, you want to be mentally prepared for what they tell you. It might not even be that bad.

I never fight with Sammy… I let toddlers feed him by hand… since we came to our understanding that I don’t want his hens we have been best buddies. I seriously need to just install a perch in my bathroom for him at this rate. He tried to come into the trailer when the four soon to be soup boys ganged up on him. My porch and bathroom are now covered in spatter, he’s ok by the looks of it, just absolutely covered in gore… the wattles and combs bleed like crazy, so I’m going to have a pink rooster for a while. And they shake their heads and it gets everywhere
