I don’t know any better so I am following that advice. Also of course none of mine love being touched (though Diana did have a bit of a sunbathe on the coffee table by my chair) so I try not to unless necessary.

You probably won't like this but have you considered getting a smaller one that is lighter/less cumbersome to flip?

The black part will definitely drop off. We will have to see how the yellow part develops - that is less badly damaged so there is some hope it will survive but probably it won't.
I am fine flipping it over open ground - but flipping a 4 gallon bucket is a bit of a palaver and there is nothing to hold on to so my hands slip (which is how I dropped and cracked the first one).
