I thought of this tonight :) so added the calcium mineral I have here.

Thanks Alex :)
Yes. Ideally give Calcium Citrate - which should be available in the women's health aisle in the pharmacy. I just pop the tablet down their throat - you have to give a lot - I cannot remember exactly but there is an enormous amount of calcium needed for an egg shell - I think it is something like 4 grams - which given the human tablets are around 500mg is a lot!

Marie, I don't think you need to be feeling inside.
Here is my understanding - but I am sure others will know more .. .. .. When they lay soft shell eggs (which are really no-shell eggs with just a rubbery membrane) it means there is no shell. And the reason it is a problem is the poor hen finds it hard to get out because there is no hard shell to push against. So if you see a soft-shell egg out in the run or nest box then she has passed it and all is good.
The times you need to feel inside are when an egg gets stuck and you are trying to help her pass it out - or when you have an obviously sick chicken and you are trying to determine if the problem is related to a stuck egg.
As I have read opinions differ on what to do if an egg with a shell breaks inside. Some say you should try and clear out the bits of shell and others seem to think it is better to let them pass on their own. Similar disagreement on antibiotics in that situation. I haven't had to face that yet. My issues have all been soft shelled eggs and given the breed (ISA browns) I assume it is because of something bad in their reproductive system.
Thanks RC. I've investigated the past two days just to be sure and kept up the hygiene. This only began after that medicated food I gave them. I'm not sure if that was the cause but it was purely the timing :( so kicking myself for ever using it now

I will ask at my chemist tomorrow, thanks so much :)
I will have to try to work out the correct dosage.

Yes, even culling and then donating to a raw dog food or such is better than that. Yes, the boys do fight… it happens, it is natural. Turning it into a spectator event, forcing it, encouraging it, and increasing the destructive capabilities of the animals natural features is absolutely disgusting. I am constantly (at this point) breaking up little fights among my far too many boys. Almost exclusively between the ones that were not raised within my flock, though. People are just awful. The cruelty charges should be much more stringent. I hope law enforcement and the prosecution focus on illegal gambling, tax evasion, and bribery charges etc instead, as they carry longer sentences. For that level of organization, infrastructure, etc to be established is unacceptable, and they should charge everyone involved. From spectators, to ticket sellers, and the people working the concession stand. Charge them all… I think the US justice system is a little excessive, in numbers in prison and some of the crimes punishable by prison sentences (decriminalize pot, make some more room in your jails for THESE people!)

Tax: Sammy and Roostie may not have gotten along, but Sammy raised up Roosties boy Chunk to be a polite, good little guy. Here he is with his Uncle Dean.View attachment 3013533
Well said. :thumbsup

Hah! I got one… and I even remembered it was Friday before I logged on! Barney’s son here wasn’t particularly cooperative (stand up right when I click!) I am so thankful for digital cameras, smart phones, and the internet… those young whippersnappers just don’t know how hard these things were back in the day before this tech was available… all the blurry random shots on actual film… having to make slideshows and watch them in your basement to share your vacation pictures with your friends… 😂 happy FBF chicken friends!
