I should have posted this Friday evening, but, in a way I was afraid mom had cursed Branch. I've told you all that she is not his biggest fan. There has been times where I would even say he does not like her either. She would never ask me to get rid of him, but if I did I know she would throw a party. The last month though when she thinks I'm not around I have caught her holding him. She always responds with "I'm trying to see what you find so special about the little jerk". Friday when we were out prepping for the snow we were taking a coffee break on the back steps. This warm weather has had all our boys feeling frisky. The one thing that will tick mom off and me too is if a boy is too rough for no reason on a hen when trying to mate. Of my 3 boys Basil is Mom and Rosie's golden child who can do no wrong. He is still young though and is not a year old for another 2 weeks. He set his sights on one of the cochin girls and she actually submitted to him but for some reason or other he stood on her back and started pecking the back of her head. She started to get up to knock him off when out of nowhere Branch appeared and ninja kicked him off her and chased him off for a good 5 feet. My mother let let out words I never thought I would hear come out of her mouth. She repeatedly kept saying "good boy Branch" and then went and picked him up and snuggled with him repeatedly telling him what a good boy he was. I don't know who was more stunned, me or Branch. When she finally set him down he crowed at her and she was like "yes, tell the world what a good boy you were". When I recovered from my shock I did inform her that she had just cursed him and something would happen to him now. I am joking on the curing part, but yesterday when she went out with the horses for a few minutes in the cold she again held Branch. She came in and casually informed me that she guessed we needed to keep the little jerk. She will never admit it, and may always call him a jerk, but she likes Branch now.
