There is a whole section on ventilation - the book is a big proponent of ventilation calling it the most important responsibility of a chicken keeper is to ensure proper ventilation 'nothing is more important to a chicken than pure air'!W
A treasure for your book collection! What a thoughtful gift!
That's an interesting coop design with the roosts above the nests. I can see what they're getting at but it doesn't look like it offers much ventilation at the very top roost, where I assume most of the chickens would go at night. In the right climate (not mine), it would be cosy up there. Where I live I doubt hens would survive if they roosted up there. It'd be far too hot.
I agree though it is not obvious from that picture - I imagine it will have a roof ridge vent and ventilation under the eaves. It is however not catering for your climate - seems to be Northern half of US - some examples and photos from Ohio and New England.
There is a lot more to explore in the book. As well as barns for each kind of farm animal, it also has sections on root cellars, smoke houses, and grain stores.
Lots for me to explore.
