'Blue" chickenWhen you say 'blue' chipmunk you are referring to the sort of pale grey colored one? I never know what blue means in chickens - but you are right there are stripes visible!
They are growing like weeds. When I got them home yesterday I was worried about the blue one because she was so tiny and seemed sleepy. This morning she pretty much flew right at my face!
The brown chipmunk one is the most 'robust' and has a worrying habit of pecking everybody else (including me).

More seriously, I believe 'blue' is a grey, sometimes darker @ neck. 'Lavender' is Hattie...very light grey throughout, and 'splash' is a chicken that won't always breed true, and can be light to pale grey (almost off-white looking) with feathers or spots on feathers that are black, hence 'splash, as 'splashes' of black. That is the understanding I have gotten by looking at and reading about varieties called 'splash, 'lavender', and 'blue'. Someone feel free to fine tune my understanding if I haven't gotten it quite right. I think initially in the breeding to get 'blue' or 'lavender', you end up with 'splash' in some of the offspring...most of them wouldn't be used for breeding in the next go-round/generation.
PITA and Blanche are splash. If crossed with a black (like Hector), ALL the babies will be blue (in various shades) like Storm. Storm crossed with a black will get 50% blue, 50% black. Storm crossed with a splash will get 50% blue, 50% splash. Storm crossed with another blue will get 50% blue, 25% black, 25% splash.'Blue" chickenView attachment 3036902

So Lavender (Hattie) is grey and darker grey is called blue?'Blue" chickenView attachment 3036902

I think I get the crossing and splash thing. I don’t get blue vs lavender vs grey.PITA and Blanche are splash. Grey doesn't exist. Lavender is every feather is same shade (whole feather). Blue is feather patterned in shades of gray or has dark/light shades on body. If Storm were black/white or black/gold, the feather pattern would be laced because feathers are edged in darker tone. Because it's shades of grey, it's just blue. Because the head is dark and body lighter, it's also blue.I think I get the crossing and splash thing. I don’t get blue vs lavender vs grey.
When they randomly pass out flat on their beaks and sleep looking like they have just keeled over, but actually are just napping until you go to pick them up?This is wonderful. They look healthy and happy. I'm so glad for you all.![]()
I will go away and reflect on my inadequacy.Already have one pecking you. You ever wonder if it is your fault? Why do you make them so angry?
Storm is simply gorgeous.Grey color in birds is called blue. Storm in blue. She was blue at hatch too. Some blue is darker/lighter than others. As light as yours is, I wouldn't me surprised to see "lemon": a VERY light gold and blue (in pale colors) as an adult, but it does kinda depend upon what breed.
