When my boys did that, I switched it to packets of microwave popcorn, bottles of Gatorade (the big multipacks), gum, trail mix, jerky, chips assortment, assorted candy bars, etc with a few unique things to find too. Finding places to hide all of that where the chickens can't get into them too is fun. It's also amazing how easy it is for a teen to walk right by a bright red/green/blue package of gum laying on top of something in plain sight and not see it. The chickens were a bit put out by the teens running all over and semi-climbing trees to get to things dangling off the ends of naked branches or laying in the crooks of the branches, or trying to knock things off branches of evergreens, or figuring out they needed to look up every downspout.....
That's a great idea for teens! I will need to let my cousin know for her girls next year 🙂

Happy Easter everyone. Bunny is happily on the couch with Grandma at the kitchen table watching her lay her egg. For the foreseeable future this looks to be a permanent thing. I wonder how one day I'm going to break her from this. It is supposed to be another beautiful warm day today. Rosie has decided she is too old to find eggs although she helped a few of you younger friends in the neighborhood color eggs yesterday. She donated 4 dozen to the various kids and she swears the darker eggs they used colored up the best. This afternoon she made plans with her papaw for a Easter trail ride. Those 2 are going to run away and be back just before dinner time.
That is so wonderful that she gets to spend time with her Papaw - will come a time she will be all grown up and out on her own 💖

And sounds like Gramma is content, I love that you let Bunny in to spend quality time with her. These are priceless memories to be cherished.

I love hearing your stories, you should think about writing some short stories.

Went out to let the Bigs out of the coop. Asphodel came out of the baby area while the bigs were still in. Before morning hunger is satisfied, won't be long before they go exploring outside. I suspect the cold is slowing that down (26F this morning is warm compared to early part of last week). they still need the heat, so not tturning them entirely loose, and Jess is using some of the rising heat to help with the incubation. it's actually supposed to break 40 today, but the wind this morning is bitterly cold. I'll go out later for pics, but need coffee first. glad we did the Easter scavenger hunt (no eggs but munchies teens enjoy) last month when the niece was home. It was mid 50s then, even with spitting a few rain drops.
The weather sure is crazy this past winter. Here it's been unseasonably chilly all month. Glad we don't have any kids to do an egg hunt with, what with waking to snow!

I both dread and look forward to when she is grown. Being my only child a selfish part of me wants her to stay here forever. The rest of me cannot wait to see her thrive. She has big plans, and is working hard to meet those goals. If she continues down the path to her dream career she will leave this area. Wherever she ends up she will never be a city girl. Her love for fishing/hunting and owning farm animals is deeply ingrained. She is already plotting on how to take Dirt to college with her. Dirt is mom and dad's horse, but she has it in her head that they are just breaking him for her for when Russ is ready to retire and be a pasture pet. She has not been on him yet, but, truthfully, dad mentioned that he is almost ready for her to try him out in the ring. We have not told her yet, because, we all know that once she gets on him, she's liable to never let anyone else ride him. Rosie and dad already fight over the many saddles, he is not ready to fight over his horse as well.

Happy Easter...I don't have Ponies...but I'll share this:

Let us out! Yesterday you said sunrise service today. It's after sunrise, and I still haven't had breakfast served yet!

Lulu and Marty McNugget.
Marty is fitting right in, but she tends to give me coniption fits when she runs under Lu's legs 😲

Yep… try it with 13 cows and their yearlings all clustered and pushing around a bale in the yard and dozens of the little feather brains thinking between the hooves is a fine place to snack! 🤦‍♀️ I swear the worry over these chooks is taking years off my lifespan and giving me greys… and yet I haven’t had a single stepping on injury from a cow yet, so it can’t be that bad… just fit to give me a heart attack.

A little sad and exciting news. I lost a more or less fully developed chick this morning. White and beautiful, from a green egg. I think mama crushed the egg accidentally in her excitement to get out… so there are 8 eggs left, with questionable fertility, but I expect to have babies in the next couple of days. My Girl came out and dropped a giant broody poop, drank a lot, stuffed herself more than usual, and has settled back on her nest, hopefully for the next few days and a few successful chicks at least.

That's so funny and cute 🤗

And yes once she gets her hands on Dirt he's hers hahaha!

One of the guys I worked with in AB, his daughter was on a scholarship to university through rodeo/gaming, she had a string of gaming and barrel horses.

He and I would have great horse chit chats many a cold Albert day at the remote work site I was at.

Maybe your daughter could do something like that...?

Good morning/ evening Lozzy!

I was thinking of that ramp you have in your new palace to the upper roost. I think I will do that for my gals also. Great idea.
Thanks PP! The cats also have a duck walk out in their run so they’re really useful. I’m a bit worried about my big girl Tegan though; she’s really too heavy to be jumping down from anywhere. I’m going to put a tarp down in lieu of a poop board and I was thinking of putting a breeze block under it and padding it with towel for her to roost on. She’s one of my naughty girls who sleeps in the nest boxes, so I can’t see her fighting for a position on the top roost.
