I am really sad about Bernadette. Her leg is not getting better. I think it is getting worse but very slowly. I am all out of ideas - she is already getting a full load of vitamin supplements.
She is now old enough that it could be Marek's, though it started when she was too young for that, and she is vaccinated.
Over the next couple of days I am going to build a ground floor brooder underneath their current penthouse suite and will move them all in there. None of them are getting out and about and I think it is because of Bernadette's mobility. I am hoping that at ground level she will be more confident to explore and the others will be more unleashed as well.
I am assuming that I should move them in the dark like I would for a grown chicken?
It is all so sad - she continues to be feisty and to be eating and pooping like a champion.
😢

Can we add scaly chickens to the acceptable Sunday photos too? 😂
Ponies, goats and gators?! Heck ya!!

I loved the Chickie in the bike basket, @BY Bob maybe we should open Sunday to chickies on bikes!

Oi boy - that came out all wrong!!! Hahaha - oh you know what I mean 😁

That's a shame. I genuinely thought she'd improve with the vitamins.

I would aim for a night move.

This 6-7 week old is looking to me to be a rooster. I’m no expert but his bright red comb and wattles and the neck feathers look much different than his “sister”.
I didn’t want a rooster (thank you, TSC) but two years ago I didn’t want a leghorn either, then I got Blanche.
So we’ll see.

When I initially noticed it last night I thought it was hot, but then after feeling the skin on the rest of her body it is the same temperature. The mass is solid, I've felt abscesses before and this does not feel like one. I should have spotted this before now and hate myself that I did not. The only reason I picked up something was wrong yesterday was because she was not bullying her way in with the others when I was tearing up buns for her fair share. Then I noticed her posture and looked closely and had my heart sink. I am being pulled in too many directions feel like I'm drowning. What should have been a happy day yesterday was spoiled by grandma which I had a feeling it would. For a month all I heard from Rosie was all she wanted for her birthday was her favorite dinner and cake. She wanted Honey mustard chicken and a carrot cake with the homemade cream cheese icing we use for the pumpkin rolls. Grandma had tried relentlessly to change her mind on both options but we held firm that it was Rosie's day. Then at dinner she made a big fuss that the chicken tasted terrible, insisted her piece have the sauce washed off and that carrot cake was her least favorite cake. Towards the end all Rosie was trying to do was apologize but we stopped her. I am really not happy that she went to bed crying last night and let grandma know it after she had fallen asleep.
Oh Rebecca I am so sad and sorry (hugs hugs hugs). And give Rosie hugs too... And Rosie - HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🍰 🤗

But you do realize that your gran is not rational - right? It is no one's fault, not even your gran's 😥 it is the disease process.

As for your hen, you know as well as I do that chickens are very very good at hiding any illness or injury.

Keep us posted and you know any time you want to chat or vent all of us are here 💖

“Hey baby. I saw your picture on BYC and had to ask….. Do you like corn, short men, and long waddles through the park? “And I’m not afraid to cry!”

Oh so it's ok for Jaffar to have a straying eye .... But little missy can't check out the boy next door???

Alex you need to have a talk with that little man 😊

Those are from yesterday… today the weather is just awful, cold, windy, raining… it is like we are getting March weather! I thought it was just me but then my cousin texted me practically the exact same thing. I gave up and relocated little Fluff, Sibling, Bully Girl, and Trouble back into the coop about 3pm, usually I put them up between 6-7pm, with the main flock going up between 7-9pm wether depending… currently they are over half up already.
Same here. Unfortunately i was busy digging out grass yesterday and forgot to take any photos.
