I should warn you the crew take a very long time to mow the lawn. They take too many gossip breaks!

Maggie has hit the mother load of wild water and asked to be included in Thirsty Thursday. She has her head in the drain that comes from the sump pump.

Best water is the yucky stuff apparently 🤗

Hey FBA peeps - quick advice needed. It was not just me that Minnie coated in black slime - she has some of it trapped in her butt fluff. Apart from the need to be very careful not to cut her skin, is there any reason I could trim her butt feathers to get her cleaned up? I think we are past the bath or finger crumble stage.
Thanks for any input.
I trimmed up Henny penny when her butt got mucky… apart from looking rather odd she doesn’t seem to mind her bare butt on display!

I agree with @Ponypoor , trim the fluffy butt feathers. As long as you don't cut her, she should be fine. If it is a lot of feathers and leaves her derriere exposed, the only concern I might have is sunburn, and I read somewhere that human sunscreen is okay on chickens. Personally, I prefer the mineral based instead of chemical block...but I am sure whatever you have for yourself will work if needed.

I will inspect tonight when I am medicating her to see how much of a trim is needed.

Having frizzles, trimming @ need is a must round here. The hardest part is getting them to hold still while you do it. Wrap chickie firmly in a towel & use a football hold is my advice.

I did move her eggs back under her. I’m thinking about bringing her inside with me, because it’s hot today. But I don’t know 🤷‍♂️
Do you have fans you can move air around in the coop? That would be better and safer for the eggs.

Been cool and wet here, not much like June!
