Great post Bob! How is @CrazyChookChookLady these days? Is her work going well?

And it's great to see Cappy and know Stanley's teachings and genes continue.

CCCL is doing great at work. She keeps picking more responsibility. It couldn't be better.

She is downsizing her flock a little. I've been trying to help find a home for Cappy and 2 hens. They would be a perfect starter flock for someone and Cappy has Ned's and thus Stanley's attitude and professionalism. He deserves a good home.

In summary, all is good.

It was the chevrons I was thinking must have a name. The breast feathers are very different. It is a pretty combo.

The pencilling is the same as Pear has, but because of the silver base rather than the gold (red), looks so different. Primula has the most noticeable pencilling.

Why do you need to take it out?

I don’t absolutely have to. But it is a bit of an obstruction to one of the popular feeding stations. It also gathers poop that should drop down into the litter below.
It was only ever intended as a temporary structure to help new chicks deal with the fact that the brooder is up in the air.
The Hooligans are totally uninterested in roosting with the big Princesses. They are a completely self-contained unit. So it seems like they will stay roosting above the fire escape. Maybe a ramp would be better.

I was extremely surprised aty grey hens both going broody at the same time! I expect it with the silkies, but not the Easter Eggers!

Does anyone know if EE are the broody sort,??

Maleficent went broody before she was even a year old. Aurora has never gone broody but she is a professional lady intent on her career. You don't become queen without sacrifices.

Ok first up we have Lilly and Cricket. These 2 little ladies were 11 weeks old Saturday. I want to point out 2 things. First, look at Lilly's copper coloring already. I think if I stopped hatching Marans right now I would have the hen I've been striving to achieve for 2 years now. Second, Cricket's black spots keep multiplying. She hatched out with just 2 little black dots on the back of her neck. I'm confident now that instead of disappearing like I thought they might through each juvenile molt she will keep getting more. She's my little Dalmatian chicken. These 2 also have me trained very well. When it comes time to get on the roost, I know they can do it themselves, they did it for a week. What have I done for the last week and a half now? Remove them from the chair on the porch where they are waiting for me. Walk around the house with 1 or the other on my shoulder and holding the other one and lift them up so they only have to step onto the roost. Grandpa Drumstick would be very proud of those girls as even though he could get up himself he only did it I think 4 or 5 times. He also had to be lifted up so he could just step off my hand.

Lilly is just splendid. It is nice what you did there. It is wonderful that we will continue to have photos of Lilly on this thread.
