I only ask because I made the mistake of planting it in the garden one year. Thinking it would take forever to grow....

Seems Opuntia (prickly pear cactus) loves hot humid rainy summers!!!

It has taken over my one raised garden and I don't know a good way to weed it clean. It has crowded out everything but the grass, succulents like hens n chicks, and yucca, are gone....

I need a way to get the grass cleared out and weed it, it's starting to invade my lawn too hahahaha! Who knew cactus great so well in Ontario!

Use one of those garden forks or a sturdy forked stick: prongs less than an inch. Push it down into the soil and frame the root in the tines, then pop them out. Blow torch the spine, then can peel

I mentioned my neighbor earlier. Well, there were two dead mice outside her house (I looked around) probably poisoned. I didn’t explain to her that rat poison kills more than just mice and rats. It was too soon to say anything like that.
But for any of you that will listen (NEVER USE POISONS around your home if you have any other animals!
That's why here there are strict laws surrounding who can use the poisons. One can only purchase poison bait if they complete a course and get a license (same for herbicides) and they cost $500!!!

I keep it contained myself n the feedroom, and in the house only in the attic.

I hate using it but we have a serious pest problem. ☹️☹️☹️

Are you gardening, or running a health spa? ! :lau

I love how the buds are pink, then explode I to yellow when they bloom
Yes! Mine are purple buds, and then the fruit turns purple.

I love how right now the plants are bight green and get dark green later in the fall.

overall I like the cactus but it's so hard to manage!!

Fyi when pointing out flowers to your sister don't make the mistake of getting you hand too close to the plant, else your bratty sister will swat you hand into said plant.... Brat!
We had an exchange teacher staying with us one year when I was a kid. My dad gothim into hunter's safety, then took him hunting. He had good aim, but when they got to something he could shoot at (deer), wassoexcited he missed everything. On the way back to the truck, he said his hand hurt. He had been so excited that he put the hand bracing the rifle down in the cactus patch Dad warned him about and didn't feel it until the adrenaline started wearing off.

Hey good to know!! Will try that 😊
