She is 3.5 years old. I expect someday she will be but not quite yet. She is very good at collecting eggs though. Has never dropped a one, unlike me.

Are you sure you don’t live in the Gulf Islands? sounds so very familiar. Yeah, let’s ban wood stoves… switch everyone over to heat pumps in a place that has 1+week long power outages EVERY winter! Oiii let’s not even get stared on the anti-hunting crowd. I can’t afford those taxes! There’s a reason our island didn’t get the nasty deer hemorrhagic disease. Fewer deer, believe it or not by the four I have in the field everyday now, because every year we have people putting 12-20 in freezers and keeping the population in check. We have no apex predators.

Snow giving a nice preview for Friday… that waterer is ready to be retired, very soon. And probably won’t survive another cleaning. 1/2 the price but also 1/2 the lifespan of the US made ones… sigh Princess Auto junk, but it was affordable (now I need to replace all 4)

I had 3 waterers crumble this year during refill. They do have a limited lifespan for sure.

I have never seen him breeding her. And in fact I hardly ever see him covering any of the gals. Pangoo would grab the gals hop on and do the thing!

But Mr Pompei - I do not see him breeding the hens.

But ye I bet a cross with those two would be very cute

Fluffy day

And has a first the other day. Pippa made it to the top of the "well" house. Roof is slippery. Hector was after her (he makes her look tiny, but she's almost the same size as Jess, Silver, Pear, and Storm: feathered dimensions, she isnt up to their weights yet). She let me pack her into the coop from here to avoid him (Maizie has done so several times and is pretty relaxed about it)View attachment 3261711

A really rare occurrence and on Friday too! Here is Bernadette’s almost noticeably fluffy butt.

Also, perhaps understandably I am a bit hyper vigilant about Bernie’s feet. Do you think I should worry about those patches of grey you can see? It isn’t dirt and it doesn’t look swollen. More like her skin and scales are a different color.

Well, even if I know nothing about breeds however beautiful these are they are not Marans . Ok, I learned that standards are different in different countries ...but it's something I don't get, for me it's like if you made a cheese with pasteurized milk in the states and called it camembert .

Some butts for Friday. No real fluff as most were either dust or sunbathing. And with the molting it gets harder to come close to them, I don't know if your chickens also act shy/ unfriendly when they molt ?
