Speaking of cigarette butt, today Honey snatched the cigarette off of my husband's hand when he wasn't paying 100% attention...

Silly chicken... I don't think she got burned or hurt. She dropped it instantly. But seriously chicken!
Silly bird!

I have lost many a bagel and toast that way.

Twiggy does not have to become the "pet" that Branch is, I do not expect him to. My goal after all of this is to not have to chase him during the daylight hours if I need to get my hands on him. Branch and Bubba will walk up to me if I call them and stand still to let me pick them up. I need that out of Twiggy as well. This is a necessity with all my chickens excluding Momma Hen. If a injury or accident happens I need to be able to catch them right away. Now if Twiggy decides he wants to be turned into a pet like his daddy that will be icing on the cake.
I hear ya, right now I catch Mr P in the barn, I can get him in a stall in the corner and get him.

But if he ever got lose the running game will be on! Of course with him all I have to do is rattle something and he comes running! He is food motivated, but he doesn’t eat it - he calls the gals and tidbits to them - so cute hahaha

And to be clear, I have an extremely blessed life, as well. I have a wonderful husband and two of the most amazing kids ever. My parents and siblings are all still alive and healthy and we get together and vacation occasionally. My friends are loyal and kind and a ton of fun to hang out with. I work with an amazing group of people serving children. My health is good for the most part and I get to do whatever I want to do. I was able to purchase the home I love so much and my chickens get to live here their whole lives and my kids get to visit the place they grew up in forever. Sorry for going on and on, but Alex’s post made me reflect on how good life is! And my chickens adore me!

It is wonderful to see them again. I miss your ladies. 🥰

That’s wonderful 😊

I find that being calm and consistent is the key to getting them used to being handled.

I think I have decided to not make a friend with Mr P. He will just remain a herd stud not a pet. Although having said that he sure can run after me if he thinks I have treats for him hahaha!
He will figure you out with time. Let it be their decision to be your friend and it is very rewarding.

Snow on the peaks builds, and is a huge part of our water system. Come spring, it melts, hopefully slowly, keeping the forests wet. Early fall snow (and this is later than normal, but earlier than the last couple of years) helps extinguish the forest fires and rehydrate the dry ground allowing the snow melt to sink into the ground rather than run over the surface. The flooding in Yellowstone last spring was caused by a combination of dry ground and fast melt running over the surface and crumbling the dry. Valley temps are still too warm for using the stove much. Night lows have been in the mid to upper 40s. Highs have fluctuated between low 60s and high 70s depending upon clear vs cloudy skies. Snow on the peaks also helps drive the elk down out of the high country for easier hunting and encourages the bears to den up sooner to hibernate. My ideal is snowy peaks and intermittent rain/snow in the valleys. (The snow melting off over the course of several days)
Thanks. That makes good sense and is good to know.

It has officially begun. For 4 months I left Twiggy alone to grow up and be a chicken. Now that he is officially my keeper it is time he gets used to really being handled other then a quick chest rub at night. I went out earlier and caught him, which took a few minutes. He protested at first but quickly settled down. I brought him in, and did what I do with his daddy daily. I sat at the table, had a fresh cup of coffee and just held him quietly talking to him. Within a few minutes he was completely relaxed and fell asleep. Grandma and mom came over and petted him in my arms and he was ok with it. This will be our new daily routine I think for a bit. Seeing how quickly he did settle down I don't think it will take too long before he enjoys being handled. On the bright side, mom loves him, already telling him his is prettier then his daddy and a better boy. He is no longer the "Demon Spawn" to her.
I love this!

That’s why I want him! He’s a good rooster! Better watch the SkyHawk overhead!

I've lost entire plates of food to chicken Incidences. (Launching through the air at the plate I am holding, etc.)
Prepare to lose a whole lot more. 😂
Noah, that’s funny, but I still hold a grudge against you for allowing mosquitoes on the arc! Next time we have a catastrophic flood, no mosquitoes, no fleas, and no rabbits’
