I was reluctant to set Raven, but, after sitting out there with her for 30 minutes just now I'm so happy I did. While she did adopt a chick earlier in the spring this is her first true hatch. My troublemaker is mesmerized by her chicks. She keeps peeking under herself every few minutes and nuzzling the chicks. I think she was slightly confused at first when the 2nd one hatched. I also think she already has a little troublemaker on her hands. Her first chick keeps coming out from under her and trying to climb all over her. She will gently tuck it back under her only to have it pop out again as soon as she settles down. I will have to keep my eye on that one. Raven gave me fits as a youngster and I think she is due for some payback.
OMG that hatched already ?!

Oh so happpppy! Can’t wait to see pics 🥰

I went out to check on the girls and we are now up to 4. Bunny has had 2 more hatch. Raven has from what I can tell 2 more eggs pipped.
Now for what everyone is waiting for....pictures.

Oh soooo sweet 🥰 thanks for sharing!

So what does Your Granny think 😊 is she happy with them so far ?

An experiment. I had this cage thingy for wild birds. But since Avian Influenza I have stopped feeding the wild birds not sure why really as they hang out here anyway!
So I tried this for corn on the cob. I think it is a bit too swingy. But Maggie in particular is quite skillful at timing her lunges with the swing.

I need advice on Maggie’s rear end. It is in a shocking state. She is sleeping in the nest box and that combined with her perpetual diarrhea and of course her very fluffy butt is a terrible combination.
I could wash or trim or crumble it off - but I don’t want to handle her too much until she is less like a porcupine. If she keeps sleeping in the box it will get worse and worse.
It is getting cooler so I suppose fly strike is a bit less of a worry.
If her fluff is old she will molt it off naturally, but I am not sure - her fluff might be new feathers.
I am wondering whether to block off the nest boxes and force her to roost. She is perfectly capable of going up the ladder. At least I think she is. And I could always giver her a lift her up and down if she seems to have trouble.
What do you all think?
I have a couple sleeping in nest boxes - Dorothy who is finishing getting through her molt, and Misty who has been sleeping on one since her last molt. She gets picked on when on the roost, by Buttercup so I let her hid out there at night.

I don’t see their derrières poopy but they are not having runny poops.

Hard to say if letting dry and brushing off or washing would be better. How caked is it? Henny Penny has a crusty poop butt, I just flake the bits off with an old hair brush, but her butt isn’t too bad.

Thirsty Thursday

With the cooler weather seems no one wants to drink water wild or otherwise

But did catch Dorothy having a slurp, her feathers are really coming in now 😊

That's wonderful she's proving to be such a gentle and loving mother. Sounds like the little one should be dubbed Trouble or Mischief

This is an ocean wavy image depicting the story of Nezha, a kid, fighting the dragon. It is from Chinese mythology and can be found in this ancient novel.

I bet a chicken will look great there. 😆

Tax: Inky is ready to fight.

Oooh, I'm going to have to track that one down....once I unearth and finish our copy of A Journey West. I'm kinda thinking basing the idea off of some of my Chinese stamps (which I can't find at the moment either).

Stamp tax

More sweetness
