My neighbor down the road just asked me if I was interested in a 1/2 of a steer. yes I am, but I don’t have the freezer space. I’m calling everyone I know who might want some fresh beef. It’s only $300 bucks, and for that price, I’d be a fool not to take him up on that. I’m planning to pay more anyways. He’s probably hurting for money I can help!

Peanuts eyes - this evening there’s bubbles, three big ones on her left eye in the front corner, and another few on her right, same place. This isnt normal and can’t be good. Have too look it up, but why, on the fourth day of antibiotics, is this now happening? Something to do with the antibiotic? Or totally unrelated? Poor Peanut!

Oh dear. Poor girl.
A respiratory infection could cause that. It could be viral. By the way lash egg can be viral too.
How is she behaving? Any other symptoms?

@featherhead007 When you found your hens hidden stash of eggs do you remember how many there was? I ask because I literally just found this 10 minutes ago.

There is 32 eggs there. I want to say I'm 100% sure I do not have a broody hen, and there was no one sitting on the nest when they were found. Just to be sure I will candle them because lately my mind has been everywhere. I will not float test them. I'm just going to cry and say for the next week my dogs are going to eat good. They will get scrambled eggs mixed in with their dog food.

I wont be put on estrogen replacers. Thanks to my grandmother and mother. My grandmother had breast cancer 25 years ago. Mom has a lump that is benign but they keep a check on it every 6 months, if it ever grows it has to go. Thanks to that my dr is afraid the estrogen will increase my chances for breast cancer. I know I'm in for a rough ride the first year or so after the surgery as my body gets used to no estrogen but I'm not afraid. Well, I lied, never had surgery before so that does worry me. I have been wondering if it is not just my back that has made riding the horses unbearable, those darn cysts could be adding to it. Once I'm healed I told Rosie the first thing I'm doing is hopping on Russ. If I can hop back on a horse again and even ride for 30 minutes here and there and not suffer afterwards, you have no idea the joy that will give me again.

Yes in that case no you will not be on HRT so for you it’s Vit D and calcium for those precious bones of yours

I don’t think I have posted this here yet. My winter modifications mainly consist of some repurposed strip curtains that I can adjust in several configurations depending on weather. I have some corrugated plastic I will be putting on the door to block drafts from that part. Main goal is to stop cold wind from hitting the roosts, and to block excessive rain when it might ice up, while leaving lots of ventilation. I still need to add strip curtains to the side that is open/partially exposed. And I bought a heated waterer (still have to run the cord and plug it in.)

And that my friend is how you are going to end up with surprise chicks next spring. I candled them, I was right, no broody hen. Just some very sneaky evil girls. I also now have to apologize to the yet unseen black snake that I was accusing of being a egg thief.

I wondered once about the sound of her breathing when I had her on my lap a couple of days ago, but not since. I thought maybe a shred of one of the balls went down the wrong way as I had to pill pop the second one and she was slightly honky. That didn’t last. She was breathing more heavily yesterday and today as she has gotten wise to the bread balls and I pill popped them into her and she was not happy about it and struggled some. I kind of think she’s been rightly suspicious of my visits, and is keeping her distance at times (thankfully not all the time). But I also think she’s molting now too which also explains that.

She has been early to roost, with Hazel right behind her, possibly a change, as Hazel used to signal first the time to go up. Everyone is molting to one degree or another, and somebody left an explosion of fluff feathers under the roost last night, maybe her, and she’s lost some feathers when I’ve handled her.

First thing this morning they were grouped in the most protected part of the little run staying warm, and then got more active. She’s been on the quiet side but interested in treats and scratching around, today I looked often with the cameras and nothing seemed out of normal. I saw her in person only a few times in the morning when I put down more shavings to snuggle into and fussed with the coop warming panel, and then again just before roosting for her meds as we again had gone into town most of the afternoon for my PT.

Sorry but I can’t point to anything in particular.
