Its 21 degrees not including wind chill. The winds are strong 20-30 mph. I have laid new shavings and cardboard. I have warm water and food in multiple areas and heat going in the coop. Funny they all are deciding to stay outside for the moment. It will only reach 32 today. And tonight drop to single digits. I got my babies taken care of and will check on them throughout the night as well. Im a crazy protective chicken mom. windchill feels like 7 degrees

I just went out to check on the birds. I saw tracks on the ramp, but couldn't tell if they had gone to the bowl. I put a bowl of snow in the coop for them.

They all seem to be doing well. I'll check them in a couple hours to make sure it stays that way.

It's times like today when more than 4sf/bird (the usual minimum recommendation) is great to have.

I was supposed to work today (make up for Monday when we are closed,) but it is so icy i decided to wait. Even our city busses decided not to run until 11 today.
The rain we got was more a drizzle so everything is super coated. It is now 30°f supposedly we will reach 50 today, but I am doubtful. The girls have had a lot to say about the state of things, they are huddled and chatting under the window.

Full on blizzard conditions here with temperatures plummeting - it won't get above 10F (-12C) all day tomorrow. Brrrrr.

Went out to do a safety check. Its technically a few degrees warmer but the wind has picked up and feels even colder then this morning. The mash they didn't eat immediately was frozen solid. I am warming it up now and will add some goodies to it to take out in a few more hours. Thinking chicken and corn and eggs.

I was impressed with the resourcefulness of chickens as several of them had made deep nests into the straw and were looking outside through the hardware cloth wall instead of being up in the double wind protected roosting area. I think they wanted to watch the storm for a bit and made a cozy spot to do it in.

Oreos comb still looks perfect. Chicken’s really are amazingly tough!

You obviously have not learned from my run-in with Karma. In a week now you will have Phyllis broody. She will have infertile eggs but she still will be broody.

My Princesses have not yet gone indoors but have hunkered down in a sheltered overhang in the run and are watching the storm. Honestly some of these gusts would be enough to blow Diana off her feet!
