So, it wasn't intended to poke fun at you...it was more like a threatening that she could end up that way and to not get too overconfident.

I actually feel very bad for you that you have such a ratio of Roos to hens in your hatches. :hugs :hugs

You might think about getting a few new hens that are whatever breed you want, and try hatching from them. It is the hen that determines the sex of the chick. :(
I tried that. The majority of the new chicks came from the new girls. Same results. I joke about the rooster fairy. But really, I think I am destined to hatch boys, it is all I hatch. It would not be so bad if we actually processed our own chickens. The surplus of boys would not be bad, it would be a good thing. We do not though, so I'm left trying my best to find good homes for them. My grandma's brother offered me a solution that emotionally I am struggling to accept. He's offered to buy all my roosters, but he will process and eat them. I want to try and find them homes first though. Dang chickens, raising them and loving the boys have given me a bleeding heart.

Getting the fire started before leaving for the in-laws so house isn't cold if temp plummets again. Looked out the door/window....

Pear has gone to stretch her legs. Then heard crowing near by.

Whiskey has gone with her.

He's finding her a nest site. I fully anticipate this one getting used at some point.

He's just visible under the bottom of this. I, personally, think it's an EXCELLENT outside the coop nest: close enough to catch a ruckus if it happens, easy to provide food/water close by, VERY sheltered, and any eggs getting laid there will be a challenge to collect. She hasn't settled to lay an egg, but if he's suggested this one to her, he will to others also.

Now the question is: should I work on moving some of the river rock and add some straw to make it more inviting or will that discourage them from using this site?

They are hard not to love ❤️! You have a good heart, to even think that way.

For the most part, the only hens at our place that fight are the broodies. If one is broody, she sets off the others that go broody, whether they happen to be broody at that moment or not.

Broodies are spunky ladies 🥰!

Just thinking that since silkies are known to be quite broody hens, maybe that's why they fight with each other. 🤔
That is eggsactly it 😊 I am sure.

I ate half a spoonful on half a biscuit to not hurt her feelings. I also scrambled a few eggs to go along with it. It tasted good, that is never the problem. The problem is now my stomach is protesting eating it. I'm also had to get away from just about all things fried which I love do not get me wrong. The air fryer has become my new best friend. Grandma hates the air fryer.
Ya I hear ya 🥺 I love gravy and bacon and fried potatoes - they all hate me 😢

Gaviscon is my friend now hahaha!

And my Yahoo's are playing roosting games. I can tell it was Aurora because of where she had to roost tonight. It was too dark for her to get up on the high roost when she finally roosted.

The main coop only has 3 hens in it.

Where are the other 4!

Well 3 of them in the Cluckle Hut huddled together

That leaves Betty. Where the heck is Betty!?

She was hidden by Lady Featherington's full figure. It's good they are all huddled together for warmth. I can not be angrier at Aurora but I'm happy the other 4 stuck together tonight.

I was thinking the other day how i kind of regretted giving up the freedom in the run to move about if no one was going to sleep in the Hut. I will never regret building it again. It is clearly a place of refuge and may have saved some hens tonight.
Whew! I was thinking - wait- what about Betty? What a relief to see where she was.
Merry Christmas to you too!
