Oh they gave me medicine for the nausea. I got Zofran right before the anesthetic, and then they gave me more when I woke up and started vomiting. This is the first time I have ever gotten sick like that from anesthesia, and I have been under many times. I have also had Hydrocodone many times over the years, but not sure I have ever had Fentanyl or Morphine. I think it was the combination of the medications and the pain that caused me so much trouble.

I am very uncomfortable but tolerating things reasonably well today. My doctor told me they frequently wait a few days before doing surgery on this type of break to let the initial swelling go down, plus so they can take me off my blood thinners the day before.

Chiquita is furious, but at this point I really do not care. It has been over 4 weeks now that she has sat on nothing and the dingbat is still broody. For her sake I have to step in. Momma and chicks have abandoned the coop so now I can lock her out.

I hate to inform you but she can. Holly my last original Marans girl started laying at 5 1/2 months. 2 weeks later she went broody and hatched out her first of several groups of chicks. Marans are known to be broody. The majority of your flock has I think Marans somewhere in their lineage. I fear several if not all of your girls will one day test your patience with the broody nonsense. Good luck breaking them. Some of mine I can, others well......I did not get up to 38 without some help.

And my silkie Henny went broody about 6 weeks after she started laying, so o threw eggs from the old Penelope and Blanche and 2 silkie eggs - she hatched all 4!

Brownie is a FBCM and Flour, Sugar, and Powder all have quite a bit of Marans in them. So 4/10 plenty enough to make my life interesting to say the least. I could deal with Broody if they could just lay eggs and brood in a reasonable location, like oh idk one of the 4 nest boxes!!

I hear silkies are awesome mamas! I look forward to watching them hatch some someday it would be adorable but its way to soon, the eggs are still quite small.

The first picture, wow, I feel like many movie characters come to mind, maybe Edward Scissors? (not good enough though). Phyllis is grand looking.

I love the third picture too (Aurora VS blueberries), and the last one (Hattie).

Happy Mugs Monday from Loosey Goosey. I have a suspicion this girl is now laying and without realizing it the other day ate her first egg without taking a picture.

How did this happen you ask, well, I have several hens who continue to strive to break my neck and I think she has joined that group. Their nest is on the main top of the hay pile a full bale back. It requires a ladder to get them. So I am collecting them every 2 or 3 days when I have someone out to hold the ladder for me.

The group that is laying up there are my Marans and at least one of the mixes Blueberry. Every egg is a dark egg. I last collected from the nest Friday evening. Brought down 15, all various shades of brown with and without speckles. Get them inside and mom needs a smaller egg to make a small pan of cornbread for grandma. Without thinking I grab one of the brown ones and wash and crack it. Only after do I realize wait a second, that egg is almost silkie sized but brown. I then decide surely little Goose would not get up there to lay. Fast forward to this afternoon, I am taking out the trash. Guess who flies down from the top of the hay, yup you would be right, miss Goose herself. Collecting from the nest today and I will be on the lookout for her potential eggs.
Blueberry was waiting for me to leave so she could sneakily fly up to lay while I was taking pictures. She thinks I do not know what she is up to, but she would be wrong.
