Oh no! That is awful.
Now I am scared for Babs. She wouldn’t be running around all fit and happy if her vent prolapsed would she?
Remember I still can’t catch her to examine her so I would have to look from a short distance.
You would be able to see a prolapsed vent if you can see her backside.

I rarely get double yolkers from newbies, but in my older hens (like, after their molt @ 18 mos, when they come back online) I have almost always had a few that laid double yolkers. Some 'straighten out' when the spring flush of eggs come...others lay every other egg double yolk, and a few lay most every egg as a double yolker.

Surprisingly enough, I have only once had a prolapsed vent from a double yolk laying hen. The couple others that had prolapse...it was a one time thing, fix it and it was better - all except one, who I processed that following fall because it was a recurring issue.

I am off out to study Babs’s fluffy butt. All in the interest of her health you understand!

Phew! Babs does not have a vent prolapse.
But she does have a nice fluffy butt.
The picture preserves her modesty somewhat but I got two good views - one when the wind blew everything the wrong way out and once when she deposited a perfect poop right in front of me.
Happy Fluffy Butt Friday everyone.

Lately it's been like that at the Hen House also - it's a free for all - anything goes - it got rough there (I think last night..?) when they were all flapping about. At one point Dorothy and Blanche fell on top of poor Marty and all three went crashing to the ground. I guess Marty got to spend the night in the bottom nest box. Crazy kiddos!
Hmmm makes me think the ledges would, ideally, be wide enough for chickens to pass and get by one another so nobody gets knocked off! On the roosting bars platform in the coop here they often "do-si-do" around as they settle in. Sometimes it's like the Sargasso Sea as one pushes the other, she pushes the next, who pushes the next around! 💃
