I don’t have fluffy butt Friday pics, but how about flurry Friday pics?

I woke up to this:

You can see snow on top of the pitched tarp over the chicken run at the very left edge of the photo. This is California, people. Snow isn’t usually an issue here where I live. Only in the tall mountains. I’m only at 1000 feet here.

When I first offered for the chickens to come out and see it, it was like a huge no thank you. 🤣❄️🐓

But later in the day… like 10 hours later, this happened…

I carried Little Mill over to her friends.

This is the first and probably last time they will ever see snow. ❤️❄️❤️❄️

We also did not have power for the majority of the day, but it’s back on now and I’m heating the house up.

Winter oh no!

@Kris5902 have just heard Van is predicated to get a heap of snow, I hope you will be ok. Are you doing anything to prepare? I will think good thoughts for not much snow and an incorrect weather forecast.

Well, you were right about the road firming up… lol we are frozen up, I’m whining, it’s below freezing. We have had two solid windstorms. My cousin has my BYC log in info saved, so if we ever do get taken out by a tree, she will log in and let y’all know. That sort of level of windstorms. A tree came down in the Draw and it rocked the trailer. I ran outside, the goats were spooked in their pen. It’s been crazy here weather wise.

Poor Scarface had a touch of frostbite on his wattles but didn’t lose them after our last cold snap, from dipping them into water when drinking. The sections that were discoloured last time didn’t fall off, but they started to bleed like crazy after the first day of “feels like -9” windchill in this round. We do have a snowfall warning, but the air doesn’t feel or smell like snow, just cold. So it’s been the usual “why is it so cold?” And trying to keep water wet around here. I didn’t walk the goats properly because of the winds, but we did have a fir take out an arbutus in the park, so it’s a great snack spot… and I trimmed and dragged some branches home for them for the day the winds were so bad they stayed in their pen all day. 🤫 I’m glad I haven’t done the spring clean outs so everyone has nice deep bedding. What I don’t get is why the water chickens are getting into the water and freezing their feathers off! Hygiene is not that important when it’s this cold out!

Frozen egg count for weather tax?

Well here also.... but Kris is in the middle of nowhere and likely she would get away with it.

Of course like those miserable rats in the barn - they get used to my screaming at them on the barn cam haha. I am fairly certain those eagles would look at her and laugh!
They do fly out of range, and they probably do laugh, but that’s why I have my trusty Ravens… they breed like Rabbits here, and no one wants to know what they do to baby lambs and goats. The adults are too lazy to hunt my chickens, but the juveniles can be a problem.

I'm pretty sure harassing eagles is illegal - even if they're harassing you first. I'd love to have eagles nesting. I can't let the chickens out for fear of hawks. May as well up the ante to eagles.
Not here… we are a farm, in Canada, and they are a pest, it’s been a long time since anyone has actually hit one, but when they are harassing or killing livestock, they are fair game. I’m ok to just throw things and threaten them, point sticks at them… They have only successfully gotten one hen so far, but they do have a field day with the lambs because the mamas have twins or triplets and can’t defend them while in labour with the next one. They also drop baby goats off the cliff. 😢 thankfully they mostly feed on carrion and out of the inedible offal pit.

How is your leg doing? Have you been able to get any more 'chicken time'? I was wondering yesterday but forgot to ask you.
Leg is doing ok for the most part. I can get by most of the time without taking the pain medication.

I did get a little bit of chicken time on Wednesday. And we put out a few of the toys I got for them. Yesterday we hung a cabbage. It is gone now. 😅
