Maybe we can get a couple of her eggs? 😆 crossed with Branch or Twig for you and maybe that gorgeous Marans Boy (Bubba?) for me 😉
Well, you just missed out on Momma Hen x Bubba kids. I sold 3 of them the other day and kept a pullet for myself. Actually I doubt there will ever be and Momma Hen x Twig or Branch kids. When it comes to her suitors, Momma hates all the boys except Bubba. She really hates Branch and will fight him if he attempts to breed her. She is already weaning off Madea. She spent all day yesterday on the hill and Madea stayed in the back yard. I figure she will start back laying in a week or two. Going by her timeline, she will be broody again in about a month. This hen is predictable. I know from past experiences I will not be able to break her, she will just find some other out of the way place...cough. Hillside. I just have to pray I can find where she wants to go broody this time, and replace her eggs with what I want her to hatch. If she cooperates, I do not want anymore Momma hen crosses. It is very hard to place game crosses and I lucked out with these 3 I just placed. Now if I were to switch my flock around entirely and focus purely on games, I could make a fortune in egg and chick sales. Especially since I have rooster luck. That will never happen though, I will go broke and have expensive pets first.

Yes, a good Roo is needed to make her flock complete. Not necessarily for baby making. He will sing her the song of his people in the morning. Escort the ladies and you can bet he will spot a hawk or a fox quicker then she can and let the girls know.
Yes a good, nice Roo - eye candy :) Maybe a lovely Silver Spangle Hamburg Stallion Chicken 💕 Or something like GregnLety has....

Kinda sort of. ... he's definitely different, lol
Did you breed for that frizzle? or was he an oooops baby?

I wonder if you made a 'just for Momma' place that is very secluded and dark, if she would hang out there?? Someplace behind the horses maybe? That you can easily enclose to keep predators out... ?

It's really too bad she doesn't like Branch - they would be really cute babies :)

Well, in her situation, if she wanted a roo, and only 1 roo I cannot believe I am saying this but, a Game Roo would not be a bad choice. While it could be diastrous to house more then 1 together in a setting like hers, a single boy would thrive. Game roosters come in many different colors and are stunning to look at. While they can be used for evil deeds, one thing bred into them is in general non-human aggression. I personally prefer to have a flock with multiple boys so they can never be a choice for me unless I caged or tied them up separately. I have personally been around game roosters who are the only boys in a free range setting. Lovely nice boys who did their job extremely well. They are just as predator savvy and courageous in protecting their flock as a game hen is in defending her chicks. I thing they all shared in common, non human aggression, even to strangers.

3 times she has hatched in one spot. Under the hay. I am shocked she chose the hillside last time instead of underneath the hay. Her cave has been filled in and blocked off with rocks when we brought the chicks off. I'm hoping this next time around she will go back to under the hay. Interestingly enough, once the chicks were brought off after that first night, she took them to her spot under the hay to sleep.

Best I can tell is that Lety traded some of the Sebright youngsters for him. He was a total surprise as we already had 2 handsome bantam Roos. I applied for my visa for the UAE yesterday so I'll be heading out next week. Ready to start a pool on how many new chickens/breeds there's going to be when I return.

That’s too bad, I like my multi Rooster flock as well, I wonder how they would do without all the line breeding for antisocial behaviours. I can see why she wouldn’t be tolerant of Branch, despite all his charms. Definitely less survivability genetically.

Is the ‘her’ you are talking about, actually me?
I have a feeling it is.
What is a game roo?
I hardly dare look!
