Freedom is an illusion hahaha :lau

Not that I would want to be a youth again, but being a gr'up is nothing but stress sometimes!

I couldn't wait to move out! I ended up buy my parents place (now I am not only ponypoor but mortgage poor!). hahahahaha!

Price is dictated by supply, and elasticity of demand, not to mention substitution. Which means if there is a large supply of the eggs they will be cheaper, but then you need to take into account the different varieties (free-range, omega...etc) and how much demand there is for those as opposed to the supply of more generic eggs. Also if one can substitute the eggs for something else (lets say those liquid eggs - ewwww!).

So these $3.75 eggs are likely a generic brand/factory farmed egg as opposed to by_bob's Vital Farm's eggs which I am sure are a premium price. OR our farm fresh eggs that people will pay more for.

(Another thing that you will learn about when you leave home - economics 101!)

Oh how lovely are those wattles! For a minute I was trying to figure out what sort of chicken that was hahaha! She is adorable :)

Well I just had the gambit of emotions there! The chicks were awesome... the fox almost made me cry for poor Roxanne and Stanley (I am obviously not over that), and then that snow chicken..... then the happy rescue 💕

YES - a Roo is what is needed - right away 'giddi-up' :)

Make sure that 1) you get a good education and then a good job because 2) you will need money to do this - and lots of it, if you want to keep them all in excellent housing and feed. (OMG I sound like my parents hahaha - they were SOOOOOO right - don't tell them that BTW....). AND get a partner that likes the same things as you ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Then you can have chickens, and ponies, and goats, and guineas, even camels! (I so want a camel and an emu.... and some of Kris' battle cassowary)....

Petition :)

Oh don't worry - there are enough enablers (people who are encouraging her) on here - she 'will join the dark side'; how do you think it is that I have 10 chicks on order and paid for (even with my mother yelling at me 'I hope you aren't planning on getting any more chickens'.....).

They have been wearing me down all winter with the 'when you get back Marty will have a dozen chicks in tow'.... :gig
My chooks eggs go for $9.00 US dollars a dozen now. And people are happy to pay for them

I do believe @rural mouse is in one of the few places almost as sparsely populated as Northern BC/Alberta! Lol. Saw a video explaining how there’s this section of the USA east of the Rockies that is nearly uninhabited, and why? Weather! 😂 so I’m also betting she stands the best chance of actually making it up there as well. We have several inches of the dreaded white stuff happening. I can’t see the ground outside anymore. I’m half considering migrating south myself! I mean it’s like 0c out there… 🥶
Oh darn - I had hoped you would be spared this miserable weather - I take it all the critters are inside? betting the goats are hahahaha!

What is with this winter anyways? I am feeling that winters are being delayed and then extended into Spring - at least that is how I feel...

Weather whining tax

🤣🤣🤣 I am getting a good education, luckily my parents push me hard! I am in gifted/honors classes, even though I struggle with math....

Wow! To eat? Really?

I guess it goes to show rural Missouri has a really low cost of living. The most expensive I've even seen eggs was in a little local grocery and we paid about $5.50 for a dozen. The last I actually bought was in January, right before the girls started laying and they were about $4.50. Now, these are generic "Best Choice" type eggs...but still.

Virtually all the local farmers with eggs to sell are selling for $3.50 a dozen or less.

Understood, but “Happy Hens, come from California!”

I was buying at about $8 a dozen but now I have chickens laying eggs so I don’t need to buy.

I hope it's not offensive to say that I think the boy on that photo has the same look as you do now, the eyes of someone with dreams.

I hope these turn out to resolve as best as possible 😔.

MONDAY MISTERY : Who stole my old marked eggs ?
I need some educated opinions. My three pullets lay in an old barn above our house and I leave an old egg in the nest marked so I can recognize it, otherwise they switch nest. They have two nests, each with an old egg. This morning, both eggs had vanished ! No trace of broken shell anywhere in the barn, no visible animal tracks. We leave a hole open for our cats in the night so anything that can get through it could have stolen the eggs. But do any of you have a clue on what animal would take them away and not eat them on spot ?
We don't have racoons or bobcats but other wise pretty much of anything that can be found in European rural land!
Anyway I wish it luck if it tried eating the three months old eggs🤢.

Gaston's face for a mug and tax. Doesn't he looks kind ?

Handsome Roo ❤️
This week it is Eli wishing everyone a Happy Mugshot Monday

She told me I had to include the second picture even though it is a bad picture because she wants Aurora to see how magnificent her beard and muffs are becoming. She also told me to take a better picture next time. Just do better is what she said.

I laughed at this last photo. She is so cute 🥰
Got tired of the small waterers I had to get water everyday. Got waterer cups off amazon and put them on a 5 gallon bucket. No more running out of water for the chooks.
I did the same thing! Then winter came and the cups froze. I will be thrilled to be able to use them again though they stay clean!

Well both sides of course!
Beautiful chickens 💗
I totally have to brag on my genius husband. I'm generally the more handy of the two of us when it comes to ways to think outside the box, but he had a moment of inspiration yesterday.

Our pop door has been made from particle board. It doesn't get too wet, but the moisture makes it swell and stick at times. I was cursing it last night and my husband thought of the perfect replacement.

It's a $10 cutting board from Walmart. The thing is sturdy, slick, and heavier than the plywood. It also fit perfectly! I never would have thought of it.
