 And I was just talking about Mr. P to my sister down south.
Yep I am very surprised by this, he has been a model Roo otherwise - I likely hasn’t been around chicks. I just wish the mamas were more aggressive with him, I bet if Penelope went broody she would beat the crap outta him. Or Dorothy - she would likely be an awesome mama.

This was meant to be my diary of my flock. It's so much more than that now. I think up until 12/18 months ago it still works as a diary. After that....
@BY Bob I see this thread as a family of friends and am very grateful to have found it and appreciate you allowing our participation.

I once cooked rabbit legs with a frying pan because the barbecuer wouldn't turn on because it was too cold. Alberta winters. *sigh* It was the regulator

It is soooo hot here. Even then I'm letting poor Silk free-range because he is getting picked to bits in the barn by the other cockerels. Silk has lots of water, so don't you worry!
Rabbit in the oven lots of beer and onions (for the rabbit ha!), slow cook for the afternoon….

Poor Silk, naughty cockerels they can be so bad! I saw on the news you’re back to the heat wave again - and Drayton Valley still no man’s land. Crazy weather. Cool and windy here but sunny.

Hold on kiddos it’s windy!

I would like to letter out a word of appreciation to all of you who had wished Jaffar a happy hatch-Day and attended his party 🎉 yesterday. He’s still acting like he’s on cloud nine today. I thank you all.
I wish really could have dropped in 🥰

That is how I feel about the Nutrena NatureWise feeds. The oregano and other essential oils make them smell SOOOO good
I agree. That is the food I use as well. It smells great.

I see them now! Standing on deck, in little raincoats, wind and rain howling. Waves splashing over the side rail “blow ye scurvy storm blow!”
Hahaha

Only problem- it sunny and dry 😊

There’s Blanche need to find the others

Oh those leghorns. 😆 They are the children that get into trouble, create mischief, and generally give you grey hairs. 😆

God I love them.

I do not need grey hairs from chickens, that is Rosie's job now that she is a teenager. The newest installment of the leghorn drama is 1 of them has chose a new roosting location. She has decided the perfect place to sleep is in Holly's spot beside Twig. Right now, it is vacant as Holly is rearing chicks. Twig loves this as he has a girl on each side of him. Grackle also sleeps on that roost, but she learned fast if she wanted to stay she needed Twig between her and Holly. She also is showing off as she can fly straight up, none of the others can. I really hate to break it to her, but once Holly is done with her chicks she will reclaim her spot. When that day comes it will not be pretty, Holly can be viscous and put Aurora to shame over who roosts beside her.

Is that the one you think is a male?
Yes but just because it out and about so much, Mr P hasn’t even looked sideways at Rico, who walks right by him no problems. And he is crowing.

So I don’t think it’s an ‘another male’ thing. I think the chick got separated from the broodies and the others were milling about and he pecked the chick. For whatever reason, maybe to just send it on its way… who knows.

On the up side they are learning to run away from the others and that is a good thing.

But if Mr P is going to be aggressive with another Roo here that would be a bad thing.
