Happy Mugs Monday from Munchkin or Lil Bit, it is up for debate at the moment. 8 days old now. Well I said happy mugs but she is so tiny to get a mug you are getting a full body shot. It is the greyest or bluest black chick I have ever hatched out. Sent these pictures to the breeder just for assurance it is black. She assured me it is and it has proper hatch down color. Her blues are self blue or lavender and if it were blue it would be a pale creamy grey.

Oh so sweet 🥰

Aren’t they so tiny?! I sure hope she’s a filly 💕

Do, please, mention her discoloured comb to the vet, and maybe bring the couple of pics you posted of her - I think it is very concerning that her comb is so deeply purple. Was she overheated...and just brought into the house to cool off? ?Maybe she isn't drinking enough with her impacted crop and the heat? I'm not a vet nor doctor - but it is worriesome to me.

Maybe @BY Bob or @RoyalChick (? or @Ponypoor ) has some more constructive and informed thoughts regarding this.
🙁
No her comb has been this crappy for a while. It is possible she is not drinking enough. Also I think molting is contributing. We will definitely mention this to the vet. Hopefully it will be a good one...

Is there something you are expecting them to be able to do for him? Or is this just for peace of mind?

Sounds like Jaffar is actually coping well with his eye, is he still herding the ladies around? I know you said his pecking at food was in question.
He’s managing well, I am just hoping for a miracle for him.

I know I am biased...but I just love the smokey grey color in her lacing and her fluff - I have a couple of home-hatched chicks that have that as adults - swoon-worthy coloring, if you ask me.

Babs is more of a pragmatist, though, and doesn't swoon - she just acknowledges and gets on about her business. Especially when tending to her Artemitis (spelling?) is the business at hand - am I correct, RC?

You are responsible for a very vivid dream I had last night. Well you, but also @Ponypoor, @RebeccaBoyd, and @GregnLety .
I dreamt I was urgently trying to get everyone back into the Chicken Palace. This is an evening routine for me so not unusual except there was some menace - a storm or a pack of coyotes or some combination. I was fearful but also very action oriented.
I had just about managed to get everyone in when I spot a tiny chick running around outside.
At first I was just 'hey get in here' and then I realized I don't have any chicks nor a rooster.
And then there were more chicks.
I walked back to investigate where they were coming from and found a previously unknown (but strangely familiar) walled garden that was very overgrown and neglected and incidentally had a whole heap of the pots I need in real life to take some cuttings this Fall.
In this walled garden were at least three gorgeous roosters, a collection of unfamiliar hens, and chipmunk chicks running everywhere.
While I was standing there one of the roos - a huge beautiful chap a bit like Cholo but with more red - caught and battered to death a very large rat.
And at that point I woke up with a start.

Dream tax: hens at work

There! Your mind has found a solution! You need to build a Secret Garden! Then you can have your roos (and all the rest) in total safety! And your mind is made up. You're getting a lavender orpington roo.

Maybe if by tomorrow afternoon you don’t see anything go and check on her. I too am curious. And really can’t wait to see babies ❤️
I see her off the nest. She then disappears again, so she's still sitting. If she hasn't turned up with babies in tow by Sunday, I'll go check the nest again.

I meant to post about Babs and her artemisia garden.
Clever girl pruned down a load of them that are now sprouting yummy tender new shoots which she is busily eating.
She let me share some and I put them in my black bean salad.
The interesting thing about Babs is she is very genteel and polite but somehow she manages to scoff her face full all the time.
It looks like she takes second place to Bernie and even the Pentagonists when it comes to food, and yet she seems to get the lion share of everything.
