Snowstorm is here. Dad plowed us out with the tractor, so hopefully hubby has no trouble getting the car down our driveway.

She looks so mad! I guess she's blaming me for the snow.

Well we are all hunkered down here in B.C. with -5 to -15c weather which is highly unusual for us. I spent the morning hand watering everyone and chasing the three ducks that left the coop as I was attempting to slip feed in. They hid under the goat shelter and I had to shoo them out with a rake while lying on the frozen solid mud puddles. I still don’t know how everyone with real winters handles this sort of stuff every year… and I’m highly thankful that it never lasts very long for us. Definitely reminds me of why I don’t really want to buy that perfect little cattle farm up north! I’m just not cut out for this weather.

What I have managed to get done is putting up half a fence to separate the chickens from the goats in the field, and I picked up some lumber and built a quick bedframe to get my mom up off the floor. So far she’s happy with it.

I have some interior pictures of the Poultry apartment from cleaning it out, featuring Tailless, Outside Chicken, and my Bully Girl…

When we moved all the chickens were in the low red transport crates for meat birds, and I put the ducks into three large dog crates. They all travelled in the bottom duck compartment, and the empty waterers, feeders, and other light chicken items, some rakes etc were moved in the upper portion. The roosts are only screwed down to the door side leg supports, and just resting on the 2x4 rail attached to the framing on the front half. So far it’s working well for everyone, and except for Arlene (my Eagle victim/rescue girl from another farm) everyone is roosting where they are supposed to. I caught and have locked Arlene in with the rest for tonight. I’m not sure where she’s been going up at night, but she’s been going to bed before I have a chance to grab her most evenings… and I think she was lucky to survive last nights cold snap and snow son her own.

My church friend just dropped by and said that it was time for me to get my hair cut. She brought clippers and everything. I made her a sandwich and she just left.

That's ok, I have a lovely pot of beans bubbling away on the stove and soon will go make tortillas.

Readying ourselves for the ice storm/snow we are expecting tonight and tomorrow... We are expected to just get the edge, but still forecasting up to an inch of snow and .5-1 inch of ice. It has been raining all day so plenty of water around to start with. Not supposed to get above freezing until Tuesday. North has it worse, already snowing today.

My family was commenting in a family group chat about the cold and how their critters responded to it.

Sherlock wants out....then promptly wants right back in. Castor came out for breakfast, chickens demanded breakfast in bed.
