I'm thinking Mottled Houdan for keeping the 5 toes, the beard, and the mottling, but they appear to be partial crested, there has to be something else there. Houdans have white skin, and the CC doesn't have the silkie black skin, so...I'm betting only 1/4 silkie at most. What color skin and type of comb?

Type of comb? You have to be kidding me! I can barely get her to stay still long enough for me to check her butt - she is a real wriggler!
I think her skin is pink/white - but I have to go back and check (and will try and see comb at the same time). For now I have been released from chick watching duty as they are having a nap, and I have a lot to do to prepare for the whole Tassels introduction phase of this madness!

According to Meyers, they have yellow skin.....of the mottled birds they have, Ancona and Exchequer Leghorn both have yellow skin. The egg color is supposed to be light cream, which fits the houdan, with the Ancona and EL producing white eggs. I don't think we'll get closer than that on the mix, but....

Bit worried about chippy - pooping a sort of clear gel. Doesn’t act ill. Is that usual for a very young chick. Don’t think I have ever had chicks on day of hatch before.
And yes, I am already a helicopter Mom!

Helicopter Mom is a good thing to be for the next few days. If the chick is drinking and eating just keep an eye on her, and her butt. If they are a day old no feed for a day should be fine. You have a water dish with stones or marbles in it? She should poop a more normal poop by later today. A very cute, tiny tiny poop!
Buckeyes here have tendef to be yellow to yellow-gold fluff. Not really reddish. Yellow legs. Head markings vary, no indication of sex ime, contrary to what I've heard from some sources.I keep trying to attach pics and getting nowhere. Will try later.

Also, there's sometimes a gel in the box.

@RoyalChick Meyers flat out states that the CC is a hybrid of 2 breeds. The mention NOT having silkied feathers (maybe to throw off the right path?). They have mottled cochin bantams. Put a roo in with the female houdans and you get the feathered feet, partial crest, beard, 5 toes and mottled feathers.....

I was outside all day today restoring our Serro Scotty from the 70's (I'd say it is from '71) so yes I got a tad bit sunburnt but it's not painful. While I was helping out, I see that Tony is chasing the little ones and threatening to bite them. Looks like the little ones aren't used to the old chickens and vice versa. Oh and Raven got on the roof of our house yesterday. That rascal!

TeeHee! I'm 81 in the Autumn & spoke to my sis today who will be 91 next month. We spent our whole conversation exchanging stories of our aches, pains, surgeries, & therapies

Chicks are good for everything that’s ails you apparently!

Except when you run into the darn bucket you leave on the floor in the dark….. don’t do that! But everything else is good therapy

I know it's not possible for you ... but locking broodies out of the coop has worked for us. But I have to admit it seems Silkies are extremely determined broodies. Some can be downright obnoxious but once broken they are sweet as pie again

I lock them out for at least half an hr in the afternoon when I am home, but it’s been so hot and humid, they get overheated fretting. So as soon as they get anxious I let them come back in.

They just want to sit in my lap and snuggle. Or the nest box…… brats that’s what they are!

Not to worry, I learnt my lesson the first time I was kicked by a horse and had hardware like that in my forearm.

I had to plates and screws removed as they were irritating my tendons. Now I have a lovely scar the chickens like to investigate. Those wee demons are always curious about anything they perceive as a weakness to be exploited. Twister grabbed my arm at the scar and tried to tear a chunk off my arm!

Moles, scrapes, cuts, bruises and swellings are all great sources of interest to them. Oh and eyeballs.

So speculation on this thread is either a mix of Salmon Faverolle and Mottled Houdan, or mottled cochin bantam and white sultan mix.
Others have found them to be small too which is where the bantam in the mix idea came from.
