Now for some names

Jax, the pretty boy. I'm guessing from his wing tips he's got a bit of Bielefelder in him, but truly don't know.

Koonj my Thing granddaughter. Named after the Demoiselle Crane

Called Koonj in India, and considered a creature of grace and elegance.

Matilda, my tree climber, after Roald Dahl's intrepid little lady.

and the splash in the middle is Arabel, to go with Mortimer the little black cockerel....of whom I can find NO good pics at the moment. Joan Aiken wrote a series of stories, illustrated by Quentin Blake about a large black Raven and his little girl,Arabel. I always enjoyed those stories and as she's frequently snuggled down with him, it seems fitting. He's also small enough to get himself into trouble....like Matilda....

Always bittersweet when they grow up and move on. But glad you have a few to stay and keep all of us entertained 🥰

Coarse or construction grade sand is pretty good and doesn’t create a lot of dust. It seems satisfying to my ladies - but then they dust bathe in pretty much anything so maybe just aren’t discerning enough!
I don’t recall ever seeing your or @Ponypoor ‘s dust baths in pictures!

I need to create a new one since doing some rearranging because of the pipe that they dug up.
I will take some pictures when I do that.
But as I mentioned, mine seem to dust bathe just about anywhere. Tassels and the babies were bathing in a heap of wet leaves yesterday. Go figure!

This is the one I have in the Summer House. Looks like Georgie is in it.

That Mr P has to sit on the wall and watch Whiskers and her babies. Wish he wouldn’t do that! This weekend I will let her run with Mr P’s gang. I didn’t want to let her roam about due to the wee size of the chicks - who know what trouble they would get into and where they would get stuck or hidden. But they are now big enough to follow mama.

I've never created a dust bath for a chicken that wasn't less than a month old and spending most of their time indoors. And even those are usually just soil taken from an outdoor dust bath dug by a chicken.

(It's hard to keep up with this thread! Sorry to all the people who have lost chickens or had other troubles recently.)

I gave up trying to keep up. I just jump around to see what’s up. Or if someone has an issue I search for their comments on this thread.

The new ones here had a dust bath at two weeks old or so (Mareks vaccinated as day-olds) of non-chicken forest soil.
