Yes...accidentally. I went to buy duck eggs yesterday morning to participate in this experiment:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...ferent-fowl-participation-encouraged.1228813/

I brought the eggs home and stuck them in the fridge. I am not a fan of leaving eggs on the counter.

Fast forward to the time to start the taste test experiment.
Just before I cracked the egg into the pan I decided to candle it. My mouth dropped and I almost died...right there in the kitchen.
I immediately freaked out. All that would come out of my mouth was "Oh my God!"

I made a few calls and talked with some friends and quickly decided that I would try to hatch them!

Yes...Kiki the person who swears she will never hatch is trying to hatch 2 Balut duck eggs!

MY day one:

Turned into this:
Please note that I can easily run to the store and buy a real bator (and I may end up going that route) but for now I wanted to just grab what I could around the house and turn these eggs into a different experiment.

1. Styrofoam chest thingy
2. A clippie lamp
3. Balut eggs

I can NOT believe I am doing this.
If they hatch they hatch...if not so be it.
This is an experiment. I have zero training and am learning as I go.

I was up half the night reading...I don't think one word sunk in.

This morning first thing I did was this:

Next thing I did was go to Walmart. For those of you that don't know, I do NOT go to Walmart, ever, for anything.

I got these:

I am still in shock. I can not believe I am doing this.
I have to keep reminding myself that I am not going to rush out and buy what a normal person would (a bator), wait would a normal person buy balut eggs to begin with?
:barnie
I am going to see if what I have on hand (besides the two things above) can make this work (for now...I still ma change my mind.)

I put the hydrometer in and instantly get worried that I don't have enough humidity.
Will this help?

I waited an hour or so and it did nothing.

I remember I have this hidden away and instantly think I am a genius.

Don't worry I washed it!

And now this is where I am at:
I have moved the operation balut under a table with the humidifier next to it and have blankets covering the table! Stop laughing!

I actually decided that I need a wafer thing...and I can't for the life of me find one locally. I got to thinking that maybe a house thermostat could work. I went to look at the one in my house but it only goes up to 95...argh. Me playing wafer is not fun. So I'm feeling like I want to go ahead and get a bator now and get it over with, but I will change my mind again in a minute. They both are still alive as far as I can tell. I just marked air cells. Wanna guess what day I am on?

I have never incubated anything other than a cold. I love it!

I can not believe I am doing this.
We just talked about keeping quail this week and I was planning on researching bators for that...I still need to start that research, but I am too dang busy talking to duck eggs right now.
